Never done this before but now looking at maybe getting a car in SoCal to southwest Ohio - about 2200 miles or so. Any experiences? Recommendations?

I am guessing that driving it is not an option? At 2200 miles if you shipped it for $1 per mile it is big money; $1.50 and you are at $3,300!

So, if it can not be driven, what does it need to make it road worthy. What could you have fixed for $2,000?

I've gotten a couple of estimates so far and they're coming in around $1,100-1,200. Only issue with driving it is the cost of the ticket + gas + my time > $1,200

you are wise to recognize the dollar value of time. google "auto transport" or similar search phrases and you'll come up with a lot of options. if you can wait for a "stand-by" spot the rate will be less. make sure your carrier is insured and is willing to fax or email you the pre-shipment inspection, insurance info, etc.

it won't break down on the back of a hauler...
