Anyone know of any literature that can be had for a very green tuner who wants to get into megasquirting his DD? I realize there are probably some articles in GRM (Im not that newbish), but I was thinking more along the lines of books. I want to be able to advance timing, AFR, acceptable parameters before CEL appears etc. Since its gonna be my DD, I need to make sure its working asap after installing. I wont have a bunch of time to wait to get it tuned. I dont mind tweaking it (cuz I know thats unavoidable), but I cant have a stumbling mess on my way to work. I tried looking at the DIY auto tune website and amazon, but didnt come across a whole lot there. I realize there is a forum for discussions about MS units, but I kinda like havin the info spoon fed to me like when I was in school. Anyway, I just want a reliable resource that I can begin to build a knowledge base with. I have no idea where to start. Thanks all

I'm working on one. It won't be out for a year or so, though, so in the meantime I'd recommend Jeff Hartman's Fuel Injection: Installation, Performance Tuning, Modifications as a decent entry level book on EFI tuning. And there is of course the MegaManual.

if the text gets you confused, like it did to me the first time, one thing i'd suggest is if possible find someone else in the area who either tunes or has tuned a few cars on either MS or almost any other standalone. See if you can pick their brain or even get them to come do a little work on your car. Usually most are very helpfull and in the end you should have a bit more of a grasp on it, and if they are a good tuner, the car will run better too

Yeah I definitely want to get my hands dirty with it, but a little coaching wouldnt hurt. I checked out http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm and it seems like theres a ton of content there. It will take a while to digest, but thats allright cuz it will take me a while to save up for the initial purchase plus a ittle bit for all the incidentals there are sure to be. There arent a lot of tuner shops around cincinnati, but I know of 1 or 2.

Also, has anyone had any success using a Dell mini notebook to run MS2? What about a powerful handheld? I like the idea of a compact tuning device that could potentially stay in the car.

One last question, once I have my MS built, will I be able to swap in/out the stock ECU and the MS back and forth without much hassle? Just in case the man comes poking around. Luckilly, Oh doesnt do any smog checks, but I think they might frown upon me usurping the factory EFI bits.

Thanks again

As far as swapping in/ out the stock ECU goes, it depends on how you wire it up. If you get some factory style electrical plugs and find a factory wiring diagram, you can make it a plug in unit and then you can unplug it when the man wants to look. I don't have the patience to read through a factory wiring diagram, so mine will not be a plug in affair.

eewww I didnt know that you had to create a pigtail for MS...guess I missed that part. I guess I can get a FSM for my 99 G20 (P11). Ive never tried to decode a ECU plug...is it crazy hard?

It's not that bad, but takes some time especially if you're not that familiar with the motor in question. The first DSM I worked on took me a bit to figure out what factory stuff I could just not worry about.

Im learning about the SR20DE non roller rocker that I have, and it seems pretty open to modification as there have been a lot of overhauls of this motor over the years that have decreased its power in favor of emmissions. And there are an awful lot more emissions and babysitter stuff going on in there that Im not as familiar with as some of my previous cars. Im wondering if a spare ECU along with a stimulator isnt going to be a good resource for this project...
