Ok, I'm in the process of firing Mr. Lucas in my MG Midget project, the brake light switch is the first to go. I want to go to a "universal" style switch, but I'd like to see how they are mounted first.

My Google-fu is weak on this one...

Anyone have any experience or images to share?

The style I've been looking at is this:

Why not put a non-Lucas pressure switch in?

Something like this maybe?

By the way, this pic is from a badass Ford 302-swapped MGB GT. Build thread here:

You can get a mechanical or pressure based switch from many sources. Time to hit a boneyard.

I used a 1969 Corvette non-cruise control switch in my MG Midget. It is actually a simple switch, but the magic is the switch energizes the lights when the plunger is released (rather than depressed). It was a pretty easy swap for the Lucas mechanical switch that fits in the pedal box. And much cheaper, too.

Turns out a member of another forum is going to send me one that will replace the original.

Thanks y'all!

people actually buy brake light switches? you can literally get any brake light switch you would need for free or almost free from under the dash of any American car built before the mid 90's in like 5 seconds... add a couple of seconds to snip the wires a few inches from the plug and you have yourself a universal brake light switch.

My Challenge S10 has a Lincoln door light switch for a brake light switch.
