In thinking about plans for the Spitfire,  I had a thought, is there any existing product or even a market for a product along these lines?

Here's what I'm picturing: a controller box with the necessary relays, and then a universal harness to go out to each light. Either programmable with a small onboard chip and USB controller, or possibly even just a grid of jumpers so you could do fancy stuff like have the marker lights go with the turn signals, or have sequential turn signals, etc. Think, MegaSquirt for your lighting.

The intent would be to have a standalone setup to take care of all the lighting for the car, headlights, tail/brake lights, turn signals, marker lights, interior lights, etc. You would know where every wire went, with all new wiring (goodbye British wiring!), and have the flexibility to customize.

In my case I am thinking about the Spitfire, and I want to re-do every piece of electrical in the car, and it's already gutted, so a separate system like this would be ideal, especially if it is easily removable so as not to count towards challenge budget. I could also see something like this working for kit cars or old resto-mods that are changing all the wiring anyway.

I don't think there's anything lighting-specific, but some PDMs include lighting control functions.

Neutrino Blackbox has programmability and analog/PWM control but not lighting control specifically. Well, sort of... I have the Aurora on my bike and it does things like flash the tail light for fast decel and so on but not blinker control or anything like that. I use it mainly as a heated gear controller (speed and temp based automation is sweet), aux power controller that knows not to kill the battery and so on.

That would be cool. And I have other thought the same thing. If you want to build one let me know.

I have this setup in my Wrangler to control all of my auxiliary lights:

Switch Pros

Its a little spendy but it works great. I got tired of having a snake's nest of wires and relays under the hood.

Its all solid-state (uses MOSFETs instead of relays) and is waterproof.

Yes, it sounds like you're looking at a PDM (power distribution module). Common on high end race cars, but not cheap.

I plan on building something, at least for my car. I'm interested to hear your thoughts and brainstorm some more. Shoot me a text when you get a chance. 267-nine-oh-8-67twentyfive

Motorcycle guys use motigadget m-UNIT.

Ut controls everything electrical in a carbed bike.

Headlight, taillight, flashers engine power and shut down. Needs a startr relay thatvis controled by the module. It can be equiped with key less ignition and program and more. Avout 300$.

Not shure if it would need power relays for car with higher power need like 2 headlights dual tail and such.
