Versa Note

I am not even sure what that means. I must be old. Now if Nissan would make this with the Juke turbo engine and a 6 speed manual.... I might be mildly interested..

Are there 10 Tech savvy cars under 20K? This seems like a stretch KBB (I laugh at thinking KBB is a reliable source for anything other than a vague guess at car values).

Tech savvy? Hummm.... Never came to mind when developing criteria for a car purchase.

Tech savvy? Like variable geometry turbos, solid state computers, etc...?

Oh, something you can charge your phone with. That's not tech savvy.

The 918, P1, and the Ferrari are tech savvy, not a Versa.

I'll be honest, for the longest time I thought a Versa Note was a tablet.

Anyway, I like my cars dumb for the same reason I like my TVs (or maybe I should say "monitors") dumb - I don't want technology that will be hilariously obsolete in just a few years to be permanently stuck in a piece of hardware that could otherwise be useful for many years or even decades. I'll put the technology in myself TYVM. This also lets me leave out features I would like not to have (and with both TVs and cars, there are MANY).

My car's almost 25 years old but it will soon have a CANbus network and bluetooth audio streaming. I don't want WiFi in my car, my phone can already serve as a WiFi hotspot anywhere, what do I need another mobile data subscription for?

There must be some kind of odd appeal to the Versa. My father was forever a diehard RWD american car guy. He has rented a Versa twice and can't shut up about the damn things. Such good little cars... So roomy for a tiny car. Every time he sees the Fiat he says "Shoulda got the Versa". Maybe if its so tech savvy it can show him how to turn on his iPad so my three year old nephew can take a night off.

I literally just drove a 15 versa sedan for work. It had 5 miles on it. It has these weird crank things to make the windows go up and down, same for the exterior mirrors. There was no key fob...probably because in order to lock or unlock a door you had to reach over and manually flip a lever...or use the key. It stickers at $15,xxx. Basic transportation to the extreme. Gets blown all over in the slightest crosswind, Rock hard seats, no center arm rest and a sea of hard black plastic inside. I've driven golf carts with more options. Cant think of a worse way to spend 15k.

Funny, every time I see a versa I say "shoulda bought a Honda Fit." I shrug my shoulders and follow up with "...ya can lead a horse to water..."

There are like 3 or 4 really good choices over the Versa Note. The Koreans, the fit, the fiesta, hell the sonic even. I like the way that the Note looks but everything else about it sucks.

Used only, apparently. Mazda USA website no longer lists it.

This. I love tech and gadgets as much as the next guy (more?), but the sooner the car companies realize that they suck at it and turn it over to the experts at Google, Apple, etc, the better off they will be. Better yet, give me a blank screen with Bluetooth connectivity, and just let me display my phone on it. I'll take it from there.

And wifi in the car seems like a great idea for about 5 years ago, before everyone and their drunk uncle had smartphones. Why on Earth would I pay for an extra cell connection that I can only use in the car? In one car, in fact?

Funny thing is, I like the Versa Note just swell. And I'd buy one - except you can only get a manual with the strippo. If you could get a loaded one with a clutch, I'd be interested.

So let me break this down since I'm the old bitter "millennial" that isn't really but they can't group me somewhere between Gen X and Millennial.

Essentially KBB said

KBB said: Millennials are broke as hell. Since car prices have been increasing at a rate equal to or less than the rate of inflation (unlike the price of their Master of Arts in Andorran Studies) cheap cars are the only thing that they'll consider. What Millennials want are sweet sweet boxes with some sweet sweet curves and USB ports. Scratch that, lots of USB ports because they can't look away from their smartphones which are killing auto manufacturers. So utilizing this logic, if Millennials can be tricked into sitting in some sort of appliance that gets them from point A to point B pretty cheaply (40 MPGs!) and keep their smart devices charged (because that's the most important thing to Millennials) then we think it is "tech savy."

Apparently window cranks are advanced alien technology these days.

On infotainment systems: What's so hard about mirroring my phone on the infotainment screen? It doesn't even have to be wireless, I'd plug the damn thing in if it meant that I could have some actual functionality with updated maps and traffic, access to Spotify, Pandora, and IheartRadio on the dash.

It strikes me as odd to see a crank window in a new car these days. Its got to be a wash or maybe a loss to install a manual crank anymore. Everything has power windows now. Why design a new door panel, different wiring harness, window lift assembly only to put it in so few cars? Just a marketing ploy to get you to buy higher trim levels, or is it really cheaper for automakers?
