I always liked the looks of them. I remember driving them back in the 80s when I worked for a place that repaired them. 

Now that he has replaced the whole drivetrain he has eliminated most of the problems.

I love the how the splitter runs into the flares and side skirts.  Fits the angular X1/9 wedge well.

I had a 1980 x1/9, that because the basically undrivable fiadillac (472 eldorado powered) sad 

I've often thought of revisiting that project with a 308 or 328 ferrari engine but honestly this effort seems more appropriate.   Love it!
