For a short time, Volvo offered a Yamaha-designed V8 in its S80 and the XC90. In both cases, the engine was mounted transversely and capable of a little more than 300 horsepower.

As it turns out, all it takes is a less restrictive exhaust to make a Swedish luxo-barge sound like a roaring muscle car.

That video needed a lot less funky music and a lot more V8 noises.

I might be getting old: A FWD luxo-barge that makes roaring muscle car noises would be fun for 5 minutes and then annoy the E36 M3 out of me. It sounds like it should be fun to drive but it's soft and isolating. It feels like it should be serene but it's loud and aggressive. Optimizing the right things in the wrong package.

AWD, but you're not wrong about the rest.  I think this is the perfect application for cutouts.

I second the cutouts, especially some remote-controlled ones.

I want the option of being loud, but I don't want to be loud 24/7.

Why sound like an uncorked small block when you can sound like an Audi Group B car?  devil

I think that it sounds glorious and don't think that it would get old. My issue is the engine being mounted sideways making it absolutely brutal to work on.

How does one put this engine into some other vehicle that is not heavy, soft, and riddled with electrical issues?

Electrical issues are really not all that common on Volvos compared to brands B or M.

You could also find this engine's ancestor in the 3rd generation Taurus SHO.

Mayhap I'll put a cutout on my Volvo.

I've looked some, I know that Ford, Volvo, and Yamaha all claim it has nothing to do with the SHO V8, other than also being a narrow, Yamaha V8.

There are examples of this engine swapped into RWD Volvos, and there are off the shelf adapters to put a Getreg, T5, or CD009 behind a Volvo Whiteblock.  I postulate that the B8444S shares a bellhousing pattern with its contemporary inline Whiteblock relatives.  I haven't found anything to confirm that though.

The electrical issues aren't as bad as the earlier P2's but they are still present.

The real issue with these S80 V8's is the front subframe rust. It's bad enough that the cars are unsafe and it only seems to affect V8's. I've been looking for a S80 V8 for close to a year and they all have that problem up here.

Even in stock form they sound pretty good when you mash the throttle to the floor.

Found the one I was thinking of.  How's your Swedish?

242 with a XC90 V8 swap.  Google Translate says it's a home brew adapter, with a cut up bellhousing from the XC90, and custom flywheel, to fit a Mk III Supra's W58 transmission.

Also, same engine, just with turbos, and anti-lag.

Or, maybe a E36 M3 tune. laugh

While I'm post whoring, Polestar punched some out to 5.0l for the V8 Supercar S60s.

My truck sounded like that when I bought it. It gets old. I scrapped the shouty exhaust and put mufflers back on it. I also scrapped the CAI and went back to the stock airbox. I'll put up with a noisy toy but for the DD, Quiet > Noisy.
