Per the SEB, change Appendix B under Classic American Muscle / Xtreme Street Category as follows:
“Wheel and Tire Allowances
• Any wheels are allowed. Non-metallic wheels must be certified/approved from an appropriate, recognized
standards organization (e.g., FIA, SFI, SAE, TUV, etc.).
• Only tires which meet SCCA Solo Street Category eligibility rules, or appear on the following list, are
permitted. See Section 13.3 of the SCCA Solo Rules.
o Vitour Tempesta P1, P1+"
I'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
So if I understand this correctly, this basically just undoes the Vitour P1's ban from 200TW eligibility for CAM and XS, so the P1 (or P1+?) will be the stickiest tire legal for those classes...knowingly creating a situation where there's a must-have tire to compete at the pointy end of a class seems like an odd thing to do.
Man between this and the AMod lower class car legality clarification I expect all SCCA adjacent social media discussions to turn into a ghost town. What even will there be left to discuss..

I'd probably say they are trying to test if its really a must have tire were it does the least damage, but yes. They were technically only banned for nationals already. I'd love to see the results they got from people running them in regional events this year. It must have been inconclusive enough to proceed with this.

there are also a handful of very vocal supporters of this tire that have argued they are long lasting and have a usable life from fresh mold all the way until corded making it a cost effective option which is in the spirit of the original intent of the 200tw designation.

If only someone we knew had a set to test those claims in a controlled setting...
I just noticed a bunch more sizes including a 195-50-15 which I'd prefer on my 6" wheels and very underpowered HS car.
I also see 40% off to preorder with spring delivery from the Canadian distributor.
Given the history whats the chances of seeing the tires?

The biggest issue I have with all the sizes of the Vitour is that they all have goofy aspect ratios that make them shorter than the competition. If they were to become legal for Street, I wouldn't run them because my E/Street Spyder is already pretty gearing limited in 2nd gear. I'm not chopping more speed off of that.

I agree...the ones I'm considering for our Challenge car are 285/30/15....they're not very tall.

Even the common widths, they have 225/40R15s and 245/35R15s when every other tire manufacturer makes 225/45R15s and 245/40R15s. I'm guessing they're doing that to make the tire feel sharper and more responsive through a shorter sidewall.
Different dude from Vitour contacted me and is going to give the local club a 25% discount code for pre orders.
That brings the P1 down to same money as the CR-s v2 which is in stock in Quebec vs hoping it arrives in May as promised.
Yoks are approx $120 a set more(all 3 same 195-15's)

Yep...we want to know that too. And aim to find out. I've already been doing a long-term study on the Hoosier TAP. P1 will get added to that rotation. And a few other things. I've got all winter and just bought three sets of brake pads.
That said, on this car, and using my normal half-day at the track( 45 minute drive, three 15 minute sessions, drive home, park in climate controlled garage) my heat cycles are pretty mild. And the rest time between running is usually not more than a week. So once the fuse is lit, it burns slowly and consistently.
The typical weekend at the track guy, with 4 or 5 20-30 minute sessions on a heavy and powerful car will certainly heat cycle out a tire quicker and possibly wear out the tread first. Especially if track days only come once a month or worse. And storage is in a very hot or very cold garage.

I am told that it was added to the name by Vitour HQ for all the new sizes. Supposedly nothing different about the tire itself...just more sizes so they get the "+".
Once the US distribution heard of this, they realized how this would be perceived here and it's now supposed to go away. Just like the "FOR COMPETITION USE" sidewall marking went away.
So those tires marked "+" will become collectors items. Get one of each size! Imagine what a full collection will be worth in just a few years!

There's been a fair bit of public drama of late between the original US source of these tires, Americas Vitour Tires (Sammy Valafar, Dennis Uebersetzig and Robert Dupree) and the later Team Vitour P1 (Dallas Reed).
The former went radio silent there for awhile and the latter took up the mantle and worked the system for sanctioning body acceptance. But the former came back to life again recently with some online squabbling. ParentCo has now made their feelings known.

This is the best possible outcome. The problem was always the people (Sammy and Robert), not the tire.
Dallas has definitely worked his tail off this year, answering all kinds of questions about the P1 and carrying the mantle.
