I finally decided the next project will be a 86-89 740 Volvo turbo wagon.
Think Darth Vader picking up the kids from day care.
I read all of GRM editorals thus far. Any additional gotchas I need to look out for?

Most states have nifty websites to check vanity plate availability
Excellent cars.
I'd shoot for an 88 or 89, an 87 may still have the biodegradable wiring harness.
My '91 was a blast at 20psi, 42# injectors, NPR intercooler, 16t turbo, Enem V15 cam, coilovers+konis, camber plates, and IPD anti-roll bars.
I have decided that my next "Company Car" will be one of these. That won't be until next year, but the research has started.
Yes. Watch for Mustang guys in the rearview after you turn up the boost.
There is a changeover to bigger connecting rods to increase durability. The consensus seems to be 1990.

Older than (1993?) has oil squirters on the piston underside.
I've had my 92 turbo wagon for about 2 months now and love it. Sadly it's my DD and likely won't see any extra boost while i own it.
Mine has 265K miles and you'd never know it. The leather interior is a little worn and the heated seats don't work but the car seems to have held up amazingly well over the years.
Also, some option packages were lucky enough to have a locker up to a certain speed. It can be very helpful!

^^^^^ I like that alot
I can't add much, except that I own an '86 5 speed 740 turbo wagon, so I'm in the club. It's got a bad head gasket and/or head. I've been working on the house at the expense of car projects...but it will run before winter. Mine's Silver. Not as cool as black, but not bad!
I love these things. Someday, I'd like to pick one up. I don't know what it is about them, but they are really nice looking when they are done up right. And hell, if the motor explodes, just drop a V8 in there and keep going!
If you are going with a "Vader" theme, be sure to put in some M3 Vaders to go along with that theme!

And a Martini paint scheme?

If the Bimmer heads didn't add the BMW and M3 tax (think 600-1000 smackers) to it that would be a niffy idea!!

Wow.
I'm totally sold on the front, but the back flares don't look quite right.
That 780 is hot hot hot.
