Some friends and I got together this past weekend to put an old Rabbit GTI back together.

This wasn't in any way intended to be a "speed" effort, just a fun day with friends, donuts, coffee, some good beers, pizza, and wrenching.

The time lapse video came out pretty neat. Thought some here would enjoy:

Meh intresting but the music kind of killed it for me. Sorry but that has to be my least favorite type of music and i listen to many different types.

As off topic as this music comment might be, I have to agree. If no one can understand the lead singer, he/she should just stop singing. I believe you would vastly improve most metal this way.

Awesome video otherwise. What was causing the no-start near the end?

What the what?

For a guy who generally, in alignment with your sig, is quite respectful, that's an oddly (and abrasively) dismissive remark about someone's musical taste.

Anyhow, while Mr Zombie's stuff isn't in my regular rotation, I enjoy it every now and again. There was no engine or tire sound to use, so nothing was lost. Silence would've been odd (and is easily achieved with the mute if you want it).

You'll hate to see what I have going on on the back burner, then. I have IDEAS

Well, to be different, I thought the music was wildly appropriate even though it's definitely not my preferred genre. You couldn't quite see what the cast was doing, you couldn't quite understand the lead singer. Country and Western or Southern Rock just wouldn't quite go with the fast pace of the time lapse.

Well done, I loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Well I didn't make the video, just a helping hand in the revival. Feel free to mute and queue up your own playlist

I was thinking of making a picture music video of a 13B porting/assembly with Rob Zombie's How to Make a Monster. That's the one where the chorus is "How to make a Mazda, baby, how to get it on..."

Nice haven't seen a Mk1 GTI in ages. Good luck with it.

Knurled, I remember seeing a rotary rabbit before at the drags, that was a really cool car.

I thought the music was perfect for the task at hand.
You guys were remarkably well coordinated. If four friends and I tried that the whole video would look like one guy working while four guys watched and drank.

Man, I'd love to have you guys come visit my garage just below the MI/IN border!

I'm going through my 84 GTI right now myself. Timing Belt and motor mounts are on the docket this weekend when a friend of mine comes to visit and then I'm going to have to replace the gas tank (scored a NOS OEM tank!) and start going through all of the suspension. I hope to have it up and running for late April and the start of autocross season.

Not sure if you'll remember me now but I bought a set of 15" MK3 BBS GLX wheels off ya circa '06 or so. I'm "AutoX-FIB" on the vortex and the MIVE forums.
