Yes. And "burning up your diesel engine" since with diesel more fuel = hotter combustion.

Having driven commercial for years.. we worked hard to keep our trucks from belching smoke.

Uhhh, I kinda doubt that, since all the "smoke" is just unburnt diesel fuel.

Hey now, no extra attention to the GGA thread!!!
Hey Audi remember the R8 diesel you promised?

Im not talking about the big rig guys, those guys dont bother me. Its the "check out my cool, lifted cummins diesel with stacks and a monster sticker bro" crowd that bothers me. They are the ones that think everyone wants to listen to their 150dB exhaust and get a lung full of unburned dinosaur soup.

Diesel particulate matter, the reason for a DPF in the new Tier 4 product.
As a generality you have 2 choices high black smoke or high NOx. You use after treatment systems to covert what you couldn't fix in the combustion cycle.
Black smoke: DPF, EGR.
NOx: DOC, Urea Injection
On a fun fact, the cooling package and after treatment of a modern Diesel engine makes the package volume about 200% bigger than than the actual engine

I could believe it, theres a bunch of extra stuff stuffed under dad's new F350.

We are dealing with the Tier 4f switch at work. Fiat Powertrane Technologys (FPT used to be Iveco)/ Case New Holland had their training at the end of the year.
It really is interesting in how some manufacturers have designed with Tier 4 in mind and some have just thrown every solution available at it.
FPT is one of the most compact and it doesn't have DPF so it doesn't have to worry about fires during regen cycles.
Well it ain't no prius on fuel economy...actually much better than a Prius on fuel economy! Looks like it will be about a 25-30 gallon tank, here's an older article (from '08) where they target 100mpg....at 70mph they expect over 68mpg....
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Industry-News/Trident-Unveils-100mpg-Iceni/
Weight of ~1480kg.
Race version looks nice...

That's imperial gallons I believe. 68mpg imperial = 57mpg US. I'd hardly call a steady-state number of 57mpg and other unverified MPG claims, using higher energy density more expensive fuel, "much better than a Prius".

But it will be faster than a prius.
Fun fact that car has existed since 2004/2003. I remember it in Project Gotham Racing 2, not sure if it had the diesel in the game though. It seems to be one of the multiple zombie British sports cars from the early 2000s. Hope they actually get it to work, do love me some odd ball Brits.

Those dang British and their sneaky imperialistic measurements! I would like to see it's actual numbers too. I know how prius drivers are around here and there's no way they are getting anywhere close to its rated mpg. This Trident Iceni seems to be the anti-Prius vehicle that will beat it at its own fuel mileage game. 190+mph speed, blazing quick accleration, gobs of power and massive torque, yet will make a Prius tuck it's tail between its legs for being such a gas hog in comparison... plus it runs the more 'environmentally friendly' Bio-diesel...Oh Prius you are such an evil, evil car now... A Trident Iceni will cost about the equivalent of 10 Prius though - you can't have everything! LOL

I'm not sure it counts if it "existed" in a video game.

I think you'd be surprised. Its pretty easy to drive like a dick and still get very good mileage in a Prius (or other hybrid).
The Iceni will be faster in every way, yes.
$162k for a diesel and an automatic. F that noise.
That money would get you a Porsche 911 Turbo, Jag XKR-S, Jag F-Type R, Nissan GTR, Maserati Granturismo, Dodge Viper or 'Vette Z06.
Well it ain't no prius on fuel economy...actually much better than a Prius on fuel economy!
Sure, but if you spend well north of $100k on a fuel economy car that seats two you can get one that gets over 200mpg. If you're going to have an mpg pissing match, pick on something your own price.
The exhaust note would be the easy part. Just make it quiet. The problem with diesels is the amount of racket that comes out of the engine bay.
If they can fix that in a way that isn't just blankets Insulating the bay I will start to take an interest in diesels
Some of you have apparently never heard a Duramax.
"Clattering, noisy, racket"... There's a lot of misinformation in this thread.
A re-flash of the 6.6L in a body that weighs 1/2 of the truck it was born in... It's a pretty good recipe.

Still sounds like crap and has a redline of 4500 rpm.
No interest. Diesels are great for trucks not sports cars IMHO.
In reply to SVreX:
My neighbors 2010 Duramax wakes me up from half a block away. Not with the exhaust, just the noise from under the hood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9abVvi2u7VY That is what my neighbors sounds like. From the rear it is quiet. The exhaust isn't bad but get around to the front and it is like standing next to a greyhound bus.
My other neighbor has a thing for Cummins powered trucks and those are worse. The powerstroke I have to use for work is terrible. The drone at 65mph just kills me and having to shout over it to talk just seems unacceptable.
Diesel powered anything just seems like a HUGE step backwards when it comes to NVH. I do appreciate the huge potential for power, I just wish it didn't come at the cost of that box of rocks noise.
