neat stuff, that's what's inside my rearend..

gears and stuff... it's a factory locker installed in a 2002 Z28 rear that i just picked up for my POS 86 Camaro..

all of that magical wonderfulness is inside this housing:

finally found the exact rear axle i've been seeking out for a while now- 3.42 gears, locker differential, disc brakes, 70,000 old man driven miles- and i paid about half what they usually go for.. also got the gas tank with the LS1 fuel pump for whenever i get the 5.3 together and the brake master cylinder so now my whole brake system will be 98-02 F body.. i wanted the aluminum driveshaft, but i didn't bring along enough cash to get that..

Nice score! Looks pretty clean for 13 years and 70,000 miles. You have a nice rearend.

yeah, my rearend is wider, but that's ok..

I was reluctant to click on the thread but figured since it was posted in the "GRM" forum instead of off topic it was probably okay.

get zr1 replicas in 88+ vette offset for rear and 84-87 offset for front, or just use spacers up front?

I thought that the 4th gen is 4" wider total than the 3rd gen rear end. Get some performance rear brake pads too if you're driving it hard/auto-x'ing the car.

i got so excited about my new rearend, that i decided to do a little simple fab work on the control arms that came with it.. now i have two stiff arms to hold my rearend.. even ran some sheetrock screws into the bushings and ground off the heads to stiffen them up a bit, and may get a tube of window weld to fill in the 30% or so of the bushing space that they didn't fill with rubber at the factory to maintain a nice cushy ride- in a Z28 convertible, where "cushy ride" shouldn't even have been a design consideration.. it's cheaper and easier than new bushings..
