I'm planning on running steelies with Altimax arctics. Breaking steelies could be a big problem 4 hours from home.

any kind of racing that has high grip can/will eventually break steelies. High Lateral forces on the wheels eventually cause them to crack. It's why you don't see them used at the track, or in rallies, or whatever. We had two cars break their steelies at the hub area last season (both at this venue) since it's much grippier than the gravel at Frostburg. Granted, both of those cars had a LOT of miles on the steelies = the one subaru probably had like 100 events on those wheels, I'd guess.
Not saying it's common or that it will happen to you, but steel wheels flex under lateral load so they eventually get metal fatigue and break after a lot of use. VERY few people rallycross on steelies, from what I've seen over the years.

They work fine. The farm's dirt is pretty "firm" and doesn't get very loose, so gravels grip well.
Is seat time still the typical amount we would see at Summit and Frostburg? It's 4 hours from me but I could see the value in coming down for one of the 2-day events if it would get me a decent amount of run time.

yeah. And the upside is that we really don't need to stop running for course repairs or reroutes any more, because the surface at the farm holds up really well and rarely ruts.

I'm open to most any kind of driving but I have reservations about flogging on someone else's car. My rallyx experience is with a heavy AWD and gobs of boost so that will be a a bit of a change driving a lightweight, I assume FWD?

I had my 05 sti wrecked by a Co driver at the first event held at summit when he blew the finish gate. 18k in repairs to mend it.
I'm not concerned about the same happening to a BG chassis fwd 323 with less than $700 in it.
Oh man, I was at that event and remember the crash now that you mention it. Pretty much the worst thing I've seen happen in a rallyx :( The time three cars from the Bolivian Rally Team rolled in a single day at Oakland Acres is up there but I think they enjoyed it. Caused a lot of headache for the program though.

On a related note, the organization formerly known as Bolivian Rally is now called "Beltway Rally Sport" (they're on facebook) and they run rallysprints at the Rally Farm as well. I did one last summer with them, which had fun (and long) courses in mostly open areas - though you do have to get used to the "laissez-faire" relaxed environment, where it's almost like you're at a big family picnic where "some racing just happens to be going on." Less a real competition than a giant social event, lol.

I was pretty sure that you were there as i recall your VR4, one too clean to rallycross, being in paddock near Colin's trailer.
The Beltway group is worth coming out to for the food alone, bring $10 and enjoy one of the the best plates that you'll ever have. Their collection of 80's and 90's lightweight cars is impressive as well. They had a few FX-16s running around last time I shot one of their events.

Yep. You Ohio guys should like it. The surface is pretty similar to the place you guys run (the place by the dragstrip when I came out to GLDivs a couple years ago).
A few people apparently complained that that the Frostburg site gave locals an "advantage" last year because of its gravel surface, so that won't be the case any more (if it was in the first place).
I will say though that you shouldn't worry as much about beating me (if you do at all) as you should worry about beating the 3-4 local guys who will probably be faster than me me by that point in the season, lol. Them and John England, of course...

I have to worry about running against John at every event here, remember? Although the last event, he was there and I also had the Mazda there limping along with an open diff and borked transmission (video's on YouTube channel, titled something like "10000rpm in the RX-7 at Roos'") and I think I beat him on raw time but bonked too many cones. Maybe I shouldn't have helped him and his dad change from snows to rally tires mid-heat? Nah, that'd have been unsportsmanlike...
Anyway if all goes well I'll be running in Prepared Rear not Mod Rear.
That might be worse for you, seeing as Shawn Roberts (moxnix) in PR here is faster than ANYONE in Mod Rear.....especially at the farm.
Will be interested to see if England is even faster now that the car is boosted. Sometimes more power actually seems to hurt times since you can't just "mash it". Possibly how my little M42 keeps beating all the 6cyl e30s and e36s, IDK.
