A friend of ours has a good new job and a nice new (to her) car: '04 Grand Am with 80 km/50 k miles. Life is good, right? Well, yes, except for the ticking noise. I haven't heard it myself yet, but the story is that after she signals for a turn, completes the turn, and the signal turns off, there is an occasional, intermittent turn-signal-type ticking noise for about the next half mile. No lights flashing (dashboard or outside), just the ticking noise.
Anybody got any thoughts? Can a flasher cycle without flashing anything? If so, why would it? Does anybody else out there have a Grand Am that's trying to communicate in Morse?

Heavy keychain rattling around?

When it comes to odd noises, nothing beats a test drive.

ooo! gerber atifact (artifakt?). I have one those and it's a great little tool. replaceable blade, really slim and light. do recommend.
Well, Bryce, she IS a typical girl in a lot of ways, meaning Yes I have seen her with a key collection the size of a grapefruit, but I don't think that's it. I agree that a test drive would be useful, but that'll have to wait for the weekend.
it's got something to do with the turn signal/ hazard switch. My girlfriend's 2000 Grand Am SE does the same thing. I was told there is a TSBl for it, but I'm not 100% positive.
From what I know (and I have a '02 Pontiac that clicks) it's one of those faults that crops up. There's a "chime" in the dashboard that goes bad, which is about as detailed an explanation as I can give.
The shift lock solenoid constantly clicks on and off when turning, braking or accelerating in my moms 99 grand prix.
This is great, everybody: thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing The Noise for myself, and will report back.
