I don't think I've had anything unusual puncture my tires. However, there is a business next door to ours that takes in building materials from torn-down homes and when one of those trucks drives in, some roofing nails and other debris can escape from the truck. My coworker has spoken of replacing the tires on his SUVs multiple times.

I've lost one tire on my Mustang and had to have another patched thanks to those roofing nails. 255/40/19 summer-only tires are not cheap to replace, at all.

My wife had a large square-shank nail in her tire. You know, one of those flooring nail or whatever from the 17-1800's. turns out there was a mid-1800s barn being torn down up the street, must've fallen off a dumpster.

Here's the top ones... - Deer antler - Railroad spike - Entire set of allen wrenches, seriously, the whole set - Chunk of metal from a traffic light - My personal favorite, A Friggin' CO2 Cartridge from a pellet gun Have also found coins, nails and bolts and screws of all sizes, tree branches, porcupine quills, bones, knife/razor blades, chunks of metal from God only knows what, a damn pushrod from an engine, a connecting rod from a motorcycle or lawnmower. Always fun to see what is in there.

I had a really odd one once. Looked like it started as a 3" square piece of 1/4" flat. On one side, someone had made a 1/4" cut, and then bent that section upwards 90 degrees. Only think I can think of is perhaps it was a home-made shim for something.

Aside to RexSeven: First apt. complex I lived in after I got divorced decided to have the roof redone the week after I moved in. I was still working overnights then. In addition to not being able to sleep during the day ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaxY4kZTtcs ), I also went through a full set of tires in six months. So did half of my neighbors.

That's why I was sure to drive clear of the debris from a Peugeot that blew its engine in front of me, just driving slowly in traffic. I don't take chances with tires that take 3 months to get here and cost half a Challenge budget.

Many years ago, I dated a gal who was driving her dad's 3/4 ton Chevy. She got a flat, and the spare had the wrong bolt pattern!

Got the dead tire off, and the shop found a 1/2" combination wrench embedded halfway through the tread.

I believe I still own that wrench :)

Back when I had an f150, one of the guys on the forums got a flat that turned out to be a craftsman combo wrench.

Also, a guy on the rsx board had a when that wouldn't keep a balance, finally the dealer unmounted the tire and found a screwdriver with Japanese writing on the handle.

I had the Deer Antler happen to me.

My former employer used to get old hot water tanks in the back. They were all kept in one area to avoid screws ending up all over the place. One day a noob construction guy decides to spread the gravel around the whole yard from that area.

I lost a tire and I think we were upwards of 20 punctures before it was over in various trucks and cars.
