Give me the bad news......

So the rear brakes on my CRV have been through 3 or for sets of pads in 120K miles, but the fronts are still original ( I guess I am light on the brakes). The rears have intermittent dragging issues. Right now its the passengers side. Wednesday on the lat 2 miles of my commute home (35 mile each way) it seemed like the car was dragging and my mpgs had fallen off. I talked myself in to "its just  me being over sensitive".... but when I got out of the car, burning brake smell.... Passengers rear.

Up on the jack, and it was dragging as expected. Took it apart, the the piston went in super easy. Worked it a bunch, no issues with the caliper. Put it back on and it dragged. Opened the bleeder, no residual fluid pressure as nothing came out and it still dragged. Took it apart again cleansed up all the contact points. Put it together all ok. No issues Thursday or Friday going to work, visiting my parents yesterday 110 miles each way. Today, after a 7 mile trip,  smell... Drivers side 130 degrees, passengers 479. Put the car in neutral in my driveway with very little grade, car rolls, step on the brake, release, car rolls, repeat several times, no issue.

Is there something going on with the ABS pump ? I don't think it would be the master as its always only one wheel, right or left rear, but not both at the same time and the fronts are always fine. No lights or warnings on the dash.

Edit: I never know what actually fixes it, but after a bunch of take it apart, put it together sessions over a week trying to figure it out, it will go away for 6 months to a year, but it eventually come back.

The pad carries are rusting beneath the shims.  "Disk brake servicing" is a regular maintenance around here: basically pulling the brakes apart, filing the rust out, and putting it back togther with a smidge of grease, mostly to make us feel like we did something to keep the rust at bay a little longer than if we hadn't.

I found out that this is actually recommended by Honda as a 7500mi service interval.

Sounds about right.  It's about once a year or so if you wait long enough for it to cause a problem.

All cleaned up again, on the passengers side anyway. Going for a test drive, but betting it wont come back until I get home on one of the rainy nights this week when there is not much I can do about it.

Guess I should do the other side also some time soon.
