Gonna take the wife's car back to southwest Wisconsin for her mom, need some good all seasons that'll see some snow when conditions are light.
Mom Smith is 87, so something that's confidence inspiring, but won't break the bank either (in that order).
I know many of the brethren on here (and sisteren, occasionally) live in snowy climes, and this Arizona desert boy seeks assistance for a neat lady we'd like to keep safe as possible.
Choices often change with tire size. What are we fitting?

From some web searching and trying to reference GRM, I think I've seen the DWS06 a couple times, and not sure if the Vredestein reference was one you recommended in a prior thread (think I've only seen the Vs mentioned once?)
Appreciate it. Where you driving on them, if I may ask?
I'd call tirerack and see what they recommend. Most of my friends don't know anything about all season tires :)

I had a beater 2007 Scion tC on both tires here in New Jersey for years. DWS06 has acceptable snow grip in light snow, but the Vredestein Quatracs were another level. I stupidly went out during a pretty crazy snowstorm trying to get to work on them and succeeded with some smart/momentum driving that I wouldn't repeat again. The Quatracs have a 3 peak rating so that could be a deciding factor for how much snow grip you will need/want. What I like about the Quatracs and DWS06's is they had acceptable slush/wet grip as well which tends to be a problem for some snow tires.

I put the Quatrocs on my mother in laws car too, they haven't caused any problems or complaints in similar use.

How much will it really get driven? If not much, I'd be tempted to just leave some decent snow tires on it year round. Otherwise, either the DWS06+ or michelin crossclimate2.
I have a friend out here that stated happiness with the Crossclimate2, as well. We get enough snow that I run snows, so the Crossclimate2 can handle more than a dusting based on his observations.
Cool, thanks for the inputs.
At some point we'll have the car back, so dedicated snows won't work.

DWS06+ is absolutely fantastic in the rain or a couple inches of snow.

"At some point" the tires will need replacing due to age and you will want to replace them anyway. Not saying get snows, just saying this may not be the best reason to not get snows.
In reply to matthewmcl :
Yeah, get that, "but"... in terms of when she drives in inclement weather, better to have "all seasons" that are good in snow. She won't be driving in radically inclement weather, and I think at the point we "get it back" we' be selling it anyway. I'd guess maybe 3 years or so. And probably just as well to sell it up in the midwest where those tires will be nice for someone.
Hey,
We run General AltiMAX RT43 tires on our Corolla and RAV4.
Multiple winters on both cars, (and mild CO winters), with no complaints.

Looked for those, but seems they've been replaced by the RT45s? My searches have been cursory thus far, and/but saw some reviews on anomalies in the last year for the 43s (could not be balanced, super quick wear - which quick wear in our case would be academic, at couple k a year...).
I bought our first set from a Consumers Reports article. Not surprised that the model numbers have changed.
We bought both sets from Walmart.com. I like the way that Walmart sells/installs tires.

I have a set of Nokian Entyres on my Fit with no major issues. They seem to wear like iron as well.
I think your looking for all weather tires not all seasons, big difference.
Had bridgestones (weather peak I think)all weather tires mounted up on the wifes golf alltrack as it needed summers replaced and the blizzacks were worn and steelies were to rusted for another winter.
Bit growly on the hwy and haven't seen snow yet but only a couple companies that exel at winter tires bridgestone being one of them so should be "ok" for yr round up here.
