Prepping for base coat(s)

In my defense, I was left unsupervised. (I sprayed it on the wall to see how it deals with soap scum.)

I'm curious what the recommendation is for rattle can clear on wheels.  I've used Rustoleum gloss clear meant for wheels and that stuff seemed really soft.  I used some 2k clear, the kind where the can has a punch-down "mixing button" on the bottom with some German-ish sounding name.  That didn't adhere all that well to the Rustoleum rattle can paint underneath.

Is the answer to just skip the clearcoat unless we have real spray equipment?  I'm fine with that answer if so.

Mr Asa, those colors all look more like gold and less like bronze from here, is that what you're wanting?  I've got gold spraypaint on the wheels on my car currently and if/when I redo them they might stay gold.  So I'm a fan.  When I used what Rustoleum called "bronze" a while back it was more like medium brown which I didn't love.

I'm less a fan of "antique bronze" and more a fan of "freshly polished" bronze.  As such, yeah I went looking for the gold colors (cause let's face it, they aren't gold.)

Duplicolor wheel paint is the best I've experienced and has a bronze color HWP105 available if I remember correctly.

It holds up so well over time, easy to spray, flattens beautifully, dries fairly quick, and the finish reminds me more of powdercoat. I use their satin black color for brackets and other parts as well, it's really great stuff.

I shot my Konigs this summer with Duplicolor in copper. My local paint supplier's automotive paint in a can ability dropped to zero after his guys machine broke.

I used 2 cans of white primer from Duplicolor to ensure compatibility. With 10 spokes per wheel, no way did I want to sand that back if Rustoleum went Mike Tyson on the Duplicolor. Used the primer to fill small nicks in the wheel original flat black finish. I also didn't wimp out on coats. 8 layers a wheel. Then 3 layers of Duplicolor 1K satin clear. Came out nearly flawless. Baked them in the sun for about a week before throwing on the Indy 500s.
