I don't know about the rest of you, but I regularly look at parts I have laying around and then try to figure out what car to put them on. This harks back many years, to my early days when I had a Datsun 510, but no extra money for neat accessories. Currently I have a pair of Recaro LXCs, a couple of Momo steering wheels, four Hella 2000 lights, and multiple choice on 4x100 wheels. What car would make a decent rally replica, or homage?
Sentra SE-R or some kind of early GTI?

I'd go MKII GTI
I sold my 55K mile 1991 GTI 16v a couple of years ago. Insert sad face....
In reply to David S. Wallens :
The Sentra is one I hadn't thought of.
Opel 1900 Ascona. Make mine yellow. More yellow than these pictures...

Totally loved mine. I’m assuming we need to stick with 4x100 wheels, right?
This is a fun game!
Toyota FX16 hatchback?
Pontiac Lemans (aka Opel Kadett aka Vauxhall Astra)??
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Good catch! Aren't Sentras 4x114.3?

Sentra uses 4x100. G20 was 4x114.3, IIRC.

I have 4x100, but it's not hard to find other bolt circles on Marketplace. I tend to use the 4x100 simply because we have five vehicles that take that size.

I like the LeMans idea, but it's even rarer than the FX-16. An alternative to the FX-16 would be the first generation Geo Prizm GSI sedan.
You all are going boxy.
I'd go for swoops - Early Saturn twin cam coupe, the one with pop up headlights ;)

...aaaaand that's what you get when the Toyota guy starts getting a little cocky about his Nissan knowledge. I get some small vindication from the fact that I didn't completely imagine a 4x114.3 variant...

This please, but make it an awd disco potato or MkI/MkII GTI.
With that list of parts, especially the 4x100 Wheels and rally lights, I'm amazed you missed the obvious answer. The Scion XA. Especially if any of those 4x100 Wheels are big enough to support 245 50 15s

Wheels (3 sets) are all 7x15. An xA could be fun on the local back roads, same drive train as my wife's xB, but lighter.

Not an SE-R, but still could be fun....(2) Facebook

Kind of along those lines, SE20DE-powered Mexican taxi?

Embrace your roots...
I think the first year was '00 so in just one more year a Canadian Echo Hatch will be 25 yrs old and can come to America. Or, an xA done in similar vein.
I guess a related question: How do you picture your old-school rally cars, kinda swoopy or upright and boxy?
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Upright and boxy. I started being interested in rallying in the mid-seventies, so Datsun 510/Stanza, Ford Esc0rt MkII, Fiat 131 Mirafiori, Sunbeam Lotus kind of cars were my favourites. They were pumped up economy cars before the rally world turned to group B. They were race versions of affordable cars, rather than pure bread race cars like the Stratos and later Lancias. They were also all RWD, rather than 4WD.
