After some consideration of several options and varying levels of taking this seriously...

Panoz Esperante GTS.  Falls well under $50k, so leaves me money for spares, fuel and track entry fees for several years.

May not be the fastest thing for 50k. But hands down this is my choice:

Off-lease RS3, full stop, why this a question?  smiley

Modern Audi luxury, 5 cylinder howl, sub-4 seconds to 60, legit 12 second car.  And it looks like a Jetta.

This plus an extended warranty.

Looks like Hellcat Challengers are starting to creep into that price range. So that might be where my search for a not-boring daily driver could go if I had nearly 10 times the budget.

There can only be one.

The newest, nicest V8 Vantage S you can find.  I'll take mine as a drop top, others may want a coupe.

Used 2012 Aston Martin V8 Vantage S Roadster For Sale ($172,235 ...

If I had a Vantage, I'd shave my beard, put on my tuxedo, and put together a James Bond movie theme playlist before taking my wife out for a cruise.

Street car would have to be NSX but I'd rather have one of these.

Yea and they all have more usable space than the S3.

I love the fact that there are no wrong answers in this thread.  I particularly like the NSX and Panoz.  AMG Wagons also rock.

If someone plopped $50K into my lap and said I had to spend it on a vehicle, I'd probably order a Transit 350 HR LWB XLT and start building my camper van.   In boring, invisible silver.  Not sure about windows or not (windows can add to the stealthiness and might even allow the van to be titled as a car/station wagon in PA - which is a substantial yearly savings over a truck):

For a daily driver, I've been secretly entertaining the idea of the fourth-gen (F02) Alpina B7 BiTurbo long-wheelbase. I think they're beautiful and understated, especially in Alpina Blue. Gorgeous interiors. Very comfortable and practical as a daily driver for someone like me who's commuting on the highway.

But then I have to snap myself out of it. They're modern BMWs with turbos, direct injection, and loaded to the gills with gadgets ... so you know they're going to be horrible to actually own. I hate myself for lusting after them!

They were about $130k new, but you can find them used for $55k
