I wear Skull Candy Inked wireless bluetooth ear buds for music and talking all day at work, and they stay around my neck at all times, so when i get home to mow, cut, grind, etc they're still there and work great.  Shooting rifles by accident in them the other day i found that they prevent even that from being uncomfortable but i dont plan on making a habit of it.

I have had trouble with the standard foam plugs staying in my ears (mostly on the left side for some reason) do those Laser Lite ones stay in good?

This might be a silly question, but you're following these steps to put them in, right? Holding the ear canal straight in step 2 makes a huge difference in terms of fitment and having the plugs stay in over time.

Some of my friends have larger ear canals, and the laser lites work well for them. I think the trick is that they are made of a really soft foam and tend to expand more than the other plugs out there.

That said, I know one guy whose ear canals are so big that even the laser lites would fall out over the course of a day. He uses the Large 3M Taperfit earplugs (these guys). He says they work well, but I can't confirm myself. They're so big that I can't get them to seat in my ears.

I actually have the same problem, which is why I use earmuffs most of the time. Those medium sized Howard Leight Laser lite or Max plugs never seem to stay seated in my left ear. Plus they get all grody pretty quick if I'm doing anything where I need to take one out to speak with someone.

The Smart Fit types (the kind that look like a tapered beehive) work a bit better, but I can't ever seem to find the happy medium where they don't put too much outward pressure on the ear eventually making them uncomfortable. It was easier to just hang onto a pair of muffs than deal with constantly fidgiting with them.

I don't know that I was aware of that method. Whether I didn't pay attention to instructions or just never got good instructions I don't know, but I'll try that in the future. yes

I use that method with foam earplugs -- works great on my left ear, but I have real difficulty lining them up on the right side.  Apparently my ear canals aren't the same shape?

It's possible. It also could be that your right ear canal is smaller than the left. According to my shooting coach (who also made custom molded earplugs), most people's ear canals are different sizes left to right. It could just be that you need a thinner earplug for your right ear.

*yelling* NO I DON'T HAVE AN EAR INFECTION!

ahem..

Funny story, I used to work at a factory and I watched a guy get frustrated with something, yell out loud, and both ear plugs flew out of his ears. Hands down still one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
