Hey Grm,
I have bought a 1986 Corolla gts, At some point i would like to swap out the 4age for something with a little more power. And by a little i mean double the hp. Here are my parameters:
Cheapish
At least 200hp with room for more
Light ish, so most likely turbo 4cyl
Easy to get parts for
At least some aftermarket
Rwd
Easily swappable
I am a welder so i can make my own mounts.
13b turbo
SR20DET
F2T
Aluminum block LSx

You just described a turbocharged 4AG or 3TC.
You already have one of those bolted into the car. Why make things difficult?

Find 4agze parts, remove supercharger and add turbo parts.
Just boost the 4AGE. You have a good engine with lots of potential already, you're making too much work for yourself.
5.3L LS. It weighs less than some of the options posted above if you get one with an aluminum block. 400+ HP potential. There was even one for sale on here for $800ish not to long ago.
Agree with the turbo 4ag,the car should have weakest of the 4ag line in there but even it will meet you goal if done correctly.Only thing is the T-50 might not survive that long if abused with turbo tq,the buttery smooth shifting one in mine didn't shift so well after a couple 18psi 2nd gear roll ons with R888's.
Going with a w series trans will solve that no problem, adapter bell housing are an easy thing to track down.If you stay 4ag I say drive the car as is while you aquire a gze block/head,rebuild if required and swap everything over easy peasy and add turbo bits.
V8's are cool and everything but I don't think I'd put one in a corolla...unless it was a 1uz with itb's.
+1 for turbo what's in there.
Well, you said easy to find parts, so I throw out my standard answer of RB20 and allow my floor time to EvanB.

That 20v is like a supermodel, nice to look at but no real substance.I did an ST 20vgze with an SC12 I had kicking around running with MS,worked just ok but far less power than the gze 16v with sled carbs and turbo did.
You'll be happy with 16v turbo power, the cars are light and responsive so you don't want to fack that up by overpowering the chassis or overloading the nose with engine.
A 20v swap is way more expensive and requires various unobtanium parts anyways. Better to just do a 16v swap and save yourself the headache, it's easy to make up the power difference anyways. No sense ending up aborting the project when you only have half the parts you need and realize it's not going anywhere and costing you a E36 M3-ton.
Ask me how I know.

Is it that much worse in a RWD car or something? All research i've done points to at least a Silvertop 20v being a pretty cheap swap. I know a few Celica ST guys back a couple years ago were doing the swap for under $2000 including motor.
You can keep it N/A if you want too.... not cheap
Loynings Tall Block.... aka Loynings built 7AGE. 250hp, 170#/ft of torque, revs out to about 9000
This is my 170hp, 130#/ft emissions compliant 4AGE...
Silvertop stuff is a bit cheaper than blacktop stuff. If you just swap the engine it's not too much more, but doing it the right way (with upgraded clutch & flywheel, trans and axles that were meant to handle that power) gets expensive fast.
Eh... i doubt anything but the clutch wouldn't be robust enough to deal with a Silvertop. They don't make much power.
I do like the idea of turboing the stock engine, what is the easiest way to do engine management preferably using the stock harness? And how hard would it be to get a 13b running on a carb in the corolla? What kind of fuel mileage could i expect? And reliability.
Hachis are getting rare, it's sad to me to hear one about to go under the knife in the quest for something so pedestrian as "more power".
Dont for a minute think this is a stock hachi. This is a fairly beat up dorifto car i am fixing up. No destruction of minty ae86 here. Here is my build thread thus far.

I'll be the idiot and say it:
TDI, aftermarket turbine housing, chip, big exhaust, modified injectors, have fun.
200+ hp is easy (rods don't start bending/breaking until at least 300) and you'll get 50+ mpg. Not to mention the awesome factor.

I promise I did not pay Catatafish to give me an excuse to mention the MegaSquirt PNP. We've got them for AE86 Corollas now.
