Around here (Idaho) you could pick up a 440cc snowmobile engine probably for free or close to free. That's enough power to get you seriously hurt.
I have a Harbor Freight 212cc OHV engine on my old go kart and it's a pretty good match for the weak brakes. You can get the motor on sidewalk sale or coupon for $99, add a Max Torque clutch for about $30 and you're in business.

In all realism. Just find something that is dirt cheap and will fit to your current transmission style. Looks like a Belt drive right? Is that one of those simple CVTs?

Snowmobile clutch, so when the belt hits a certain RPM, it grabs. I believe that means its CVT, right?

That's actually the perfect time to start a project like that. They grow-up so fast, that by the time your done building it, it will be perfect. Ask me how I know...
