Is there one under 10K anymore? We could even brake it down in to categories I guess.
2 seat sports car
2 door coup/hatch
4 door coup
wagon
Mini Van (4 door hatch)
Anyway who is selling the least expensive new vehicular at the moment?

Not anymore, price bumped up for 2012. Same story with the Elantra. All new cars are 5-figures.

I'm trying to figure out why the Versa hatch costs another $3400... I mean, sure, it's probably automatically a higher trim level. But $3400?
Not to threadjack, but there's a funny one for you... At a minimum, the Versa and Mazda3 are only available in higher-spec models as a hatch, despite the apparent law of cars that says Americans think of hatches as cheap and won't buy "nicer" cars as hatches (wave bye-bye to the 318ti and C230, etc...)

Nah, if that were the case, people wouldn't like the Porsche Panamera.

People DON'T like the Porsche Panamera. People DO like Porsche badges on the fronts of their cars...

Do I even have to begin to point out how absurd it is a Miata costs more than a Genesis? No? Ok then...
Are they still selling the Hyundai Accent?
I know 2-3 years ago, you could buy a stripper version with no AC/Radio for $6500 here in OK.
But who in the hell buys a car with no AC in OK.
In reply to HiTempguy:
Why is that absurd? Convertibles always cost more than mass market coupes. They cost more to build, they have a limited market, and the manufacturers have to work around a rollercoaster of a demand curve.

What? I searched for these used recently. Even used models are going for >$6500
I would love to be able to get a new car for that kind of money.

Also the Miata is a better car
ProDarwin wrote: Also the Miata is a better car
Yes, there's that. Also if you think the Miata is overpriced now, wait 3 or 4 years and a 2012 Miata will cost twice what a 2012 Genesis does .
The reason the hatch is more, is it has the larger engine. The $10,999 versa is the 1.6L/109hp base. And it would seem to be the cheapest new car in america.

$29k for the Miata vs $25k for the Genesis here in Canada for base models. I am willing to bet for $4k I could make the Genesis better in almost every way. That buys KW Coilovers, a tune for moar powa, and a clutch type LSD (since I don't think the base comes with one).

Quoted for truth; the Versa has the lowest MSRP of any car. With incentives, there may be others that are less...but it is the lowest MSRP.
The Versa also feels like the cheapest new car in America. We rented one for a trip to Tampa last year. I seriously white-knuckled it all the way down. It was absolutely terrifying at anything over 60mph. Felt like driving on 4 flat tires.

Not the thread for this, but I'd put money that a bone-stock Miata would crush a Genesis with 4k worth of mods on an autox course. Track it would probably be faster as well, but the gap wouldn't be as large due to the extra power of the Genesis. Not only that, "better" wasn't strictly in terms of performance.
On topic...
I've driven a Versa and it wasn't bad at all, aside from being ugly as sin. Its an appliance though, I didn't expect much beyond a moderately quiet, smooth ride, good gas mileage, and cheap. Certainly no worse than its competitiors. Actually, I kind of have to commend the programming for the auto transmission.

Even if that were true (it's probably not), you'd still only be able to put the roof down once, and it would be a real pain in the ass.
Thread on my Elantra
Very happy with it

He's in CANADA. The point of putting the roof down would be????

No, it's true. That last-gen Accent could still come without A/C or cruise and was stupid cheap. My neighbor bought one for under $7K about 2 years ago. The dealers up here had quite a few of the base stripper models like that.
