What is the most affordable Porsche?

So what i'm seeing here is that i need to buy a 964 SOON.

I'm a fan of Porsches in general but this appreciation in formerly unappreciated models like the 912 kinda blows me away. I go on my local Craigslist and there's three 912s for sale. Average price? $24,000. Seriously? For that sort of coin there's so many much more interesting cars available. It's become a stock market phenomenon, like your periodic tech booms. Get in and ride any old POS up the value chart and hope to get out before people realize that they've invested in a gross underachiever.

I'm kinda with kreb on this one. I'm a fan of 912's at around $6k, not so much at $24k. Same is true with 914's. They've escalated to the point where they are no longer attractive to me. Right now, the best value in a Porsche is Boxster or 944 Turbo. The turbos cost a bit more, but they are so much more of a car than the standard 944. And Boxsters, well they are one of the best driving cars around.

Buy smart. I've never lost money on a Porsche.

I love the 968. Seriously. I had a hardcover dealer brochure for years. Unfortunately, it's a nice 944 at a severe premium.

If I see a reasonably priced example, I might break off my 914 search.

I know the 968 is improved in every way, but I just can't get over the headlights. Give me a 944 every time. In fact, this thread is making me want other 951....

There just aren't many 968s around. I go to a bunch of PCA events and I probably see five per year.

Yeah, finding the right one would take a lot of effort but they are out there.

If you mean yesterday by "soon", yes. Their prices seem to be increasing fairly rapidly right now to similar levels of C3.2s if it's a good one.

968 is cool but the 924S is the cheapest Porsche. I rarely see them for sale but when I do it's only for like $2000 or $3000 and these are not cars in bad shape either.

I was talking Porsches with someone and he mentioned off-hand that, years back, he thought he spent too much when he paid $6000 for his late 60s 911T. Then he looked at how much they are worth today

I am of the opinion that 986 Boxsters are going to start increasing in value in the near future. They're at the bottom of their depreciation curve, and are due for an uptick.

My brother has a 930 Turbo that sits in his garage year after year after year....that seems pretty affordable.

Only if you don't have to buy one first. 930s have massively increased in price...

930s are very affordable, your life insurance will more than care of the loan once you back into something at 100mph+.

Just sold my 944 race car for under $4k and it was a NASA GTS-1 winner. I'd say that's the way to go. 924 is cheaper but also much much slower on track. And honestly I had no idea the 924S had gotten so cheap. Very interesting.

I started out racing a 924 named Dori. It's all about suspension setup on those cars. When set up correctly, it was one of the best handling cars I've ever driven.
