Said to be German built of unknown manufacturer. I don't know how that was determined, but it seems any manufacturer would stamp the thing somewhere.

Anyone recognize it?

Looks to be an old Mercedes Benz v8.

M117, it looks like the 4.5 liter version. Specifically the varriant from the 450SL or 450SLC from the mid to late 70s. I'm pretty sure the ones from the 450SE and 450SEL had different catylitic converters.

The part number should be stamped on a little machined surface right behind where the left side cylinder head is should be something like 117.9xx.xxx. That number will tell you what car it came from.

Almost looks like a Mercedes-Benz m116 or m117.
