I know very little about tires, so I need help.
The car is a 91 318ic (convertible). It has the basketweave BBS, 14 inches if I'm not mistaken. Currently we have all seasons, which doesn't make much sense seeing as it never see's rain/mud/snow, etc. We autocross it, but don't want to take it out of stock class. Also, there is a good chance we are getting another set of bottle caps from an older E30, so the all seasons would probably go on there for when we aren't autocrossing.
EDIT: We are not competative at all, but the tires would help us to not embarrass ourselves.
What should I look for, and also, where should I look from? Price is considered; I want to spend as little money as possible while still getting a decent product.
Thanks!
Falken Azenis are available in 195/60R14 86H. $66/each from vulcantire.com.
Third. Mine are even the same size. Love them!

If you want to be more competitive, kuhmo 710's, hoosier A6's and toyo R888's, Nitto Nt01's, whatever the soft hankook is called, or any other soft R compound would be faster. See if you can find a deal on a set of the above.
Since you have an extra set of rims, you might as well get R's.
yeah, that. NT-01's lasted me quite a while on my last e30. treadwear was 100 iirc. they take a lot of heat to work 100 % though. An M42 E30 on an autocross course may or may not make enough to warm up that particular tire.

I'll look into the price. How much would we gain from R's versus the Falkens? The car had 135 hp 18 years ago... would it get warm enough for us to really see a difference? And as for being more competitive, its a relative term. We're in a convertible with too much suspension travel, etc. etc. We will more than likely never trophy in this car, we just want to improve our own times and are wanting to do the little things that will help with that.
Again, I really know nothing other than that right now I'm on skinny tires that will screech if I take a turn at any speed at all. Thanks for all the help.
Might want to step up to the Falkens and work on the rest of the car/nut behind the wheel before going full-on R-comp. I think a lot of this board forgets that not everybody is looking for a national title and may just want something sticky enough to learn with but not more expensive then the car they're on.
I really enjoy my Falkens and have beaten cars on R-comps. At the end of the day I can leave the Auto-X and grab lunch while they all have to change wheels to go home. I also have a lot more dough in my pocket to buy said lunch with!

When I went from fresh falken 615's to fresh kumho v710's I dropped 2 seconds on a 40 second course. I wasn't planning on going for any national titles, but it sure made the car more fun to drive with all that grip.

Just a guess, but i'm going to say that there is about the same difference going from all seasons to the 615's.

This is the big thing we are going for here, we just want something with more grip than what he have now.
I think I'm gonna go with the Azenis. Vulcan is the best place to buy?
