My grandfather passed earlier this year, and my mom asked me if I wanted his car. He picked it up a year or so ago, and he was 99 when he stopped driving. So it is the typical old man car, gold, leather interior, automatic. It’s a 1999 or 2000, and I should be able to get a title. It is in FL and I’m in TN, so there are the logistics of getting it back home.
And what do I do with it? Cause I don’t really want/ or need a 99 Chevy Malibu. If I was going to add another car to the house parking lot, I had been thinking of a Miata (never owned one) or an air cooled VW Baja (always wanted one).
Also do how the rules work for cars like this on things like GRM challenge, Lemons, etc?
Junkyard supercharger, roll cage, lemons class C glory.
I’d see if another family member actual needed it if not it’s fair game in my opinion to sell and put the money towards one of those cars you want.
Of course there is the distance and title issues so maybe donate.
Fmv (id use Florida tax value)
My thoughts? Cummins turbo. Add boost until you get manifold pressure and tire pressure confused. Report back so i know where the limits of boost on a 60 degree v6 are.

So, I hear there's this race series in florida. Sponsored by some magazine or something. Tree branch racingsports? Something about it being cheap. Anyhow- this year there's a class I am told, based on slugs, or snails, or...is it gastropods? Whatever those are? I feel like a free Malibu that's already in the state could be worthwhile.
Alternitavely- I'll give you double your purchase price for it.
Yea pretty sure free challenge car
Interesting.
Yes it it was offered up to all family members, and no takers.
The car is just north of Daytona, and my next trip to FL is to Tallahassee in a couple weeks. Hmmmmm.
A free 99 Chevy Malibu and a VW Baja Bug are the same thing. Just sayin'.
Put a free blow-up Barbie in it?
We talking 4 cylinder Malibu or 3100. If 2.2 you have some off the shelf cobalt SS parts you can probably find and make work for boost antics. If it's the 3100, you could cap the outlet of the back manifold and replace the crossover pipe with a y pipe into a turbo. Move the battery to the trunk and the turbo should fit nicely where the battery box was.
Not that I've thought about this before or anything.
If it's a 2.2 then turbo. If a 3100 then strap a bottle of giggle gas to it and see if the rods outlive the transmission.
Can’t believe I’m the first to say rallycross.

My wife had a '03 and a few years ago we donated it charity. Should have done it a few years earlier. It might be a nice way to remember your grandfather. Or perhaps find a family waiting at a bus stop and hand them the keys and signed ownership. You could change someone's life in a meaningful way. Also saves you the logistics in driving it home. The fuel cost/time is likely worth more than the car. It's false economy/lower enjoyment to try to use it for motorsports unless your looking for a demo derby car. It has a very stout front subframe, it would probably be decent for that. I could see using it for rallycross (as mentioned above) just for the sake of trying it and driving something into the ground.
Just north of Daytona you say?
A friend of mine had the Olds version of that same car. It was so generic that he thought about adding a windshield banner saying "CAR".
I will say. I traded my '99 Malibu for a truck that I got 2 weeks of use out of before it exploded. I still think I did ok. That's how little I miss that car.
I paid $600 for mine though. Free changes everything.

If it was an ecotec i'd modify it. If it was a 3100 i'd dream about a 3900 with a cam (which is ~300hp) but i probably wouldn't do that. Because i should do that to a Cimarron instead.

Well, it’s been a while since the staff entered a car in the challenge. Maybe it’s time they joined the gastropods?
Since daughters car got totaled yesterday I will join the circling vulchers. If price was good enough with shipping it would be worth it.
Oh daughter is 30 and appreciates nice things. Changes her own oil etc. (dads girl). She has had a Malibu in the past. Donated it to a family that was in need. We still see it around town.
Car is in Ormond Beach. I’m waiting on a family member to send pics.
1. Most of us GRMers are in Ormond Beach. There's good odds I live less than 5 miles from this thing. Let me know if you need a hand with any logistics.
