I just recently swapped out the my exhaust manifolds for headers on my silverado. This included replacing the catalytic converters with an aftermarket setup.

As a result i have 3 stock GM catalytic converters. I called the local metal scrapper in FL (hoping to get some pocket change) and they said they can legally only buy them as "metal scrap" at whatever rate per pound they use for appliances and cars.

Should i just throw these away or is there a better option?

They're like gold to meth-heads, so you have to figure out what they do with them

ebay as scrap. I got 129 for the one from my sonoma. I'm sitting on a pile of them hoping metal prices recover

Someone else will pay more. I sold a medium sized GM cat recently for $51.

They are worth good money, but many places are restricted by law from buying. Chicago for example, had such a problem with stolen cats that buying from individuals is fully illegal.

Drive 100 miles into Indiana However, and you're good.

Look for a specific catalytic converter recycler.

I can use a set for my 99 suburban if you want to part with them reasonably. I am in Jacksonville FL

There are places online that recycle catalytic converters and will pay well for them. I picked up $60 or $70 per cat last time I sent some in.

I got these places referred to me here in the past. My brother used one but I don't know which one and the experience was smooth and the price paid was good.

I tried several places as well but the one that was that gave me the best price was the Converter Guy. Tim was fantastic and he really does pay top dollar for your converters. You can call him he normally answers personally which is cool.

Don't waste your money and just throw them away- while it's not  a high amount, but the platinum, rhodium, and palladium in the bricks is worth some money.  There's also a lot of other not quite as precious metals in there, which becomes valuable to someone who does the recycling on a massive basis.

Here in SC you need a free permit, but then you can bring them to the scrap places, and last one I sold was worth more than the aftermarket replacement cost.

I put 2 OEM Nissan cats on FB Marketplace and had $100 in my pocket by the end of the day.
