As posted in another thread, I've had some rodents do a number on some sensor wiring on my RX8 to the extent that I'll need to splice in a couple of inches worth of wiring. Plus I also need to replace some of the sensor wiring on the formula car.
What's the recommended wire gauge for the fairly thin sensor wire on modern cars? I was thinking 32 AWG but figured I'll ask here first.
What kind of sensors? Most of the Toyota sensors seem to run in the 22-ish and down gauge area, with some in the 18ga range. I would go with whatever size is there or larger for your spice.
Can't you match it up with the remaining wiring?
In reply to Dr. Hess :
Mazda RX8 MAF sensor, to be specific. I was planning to get some 18 AWG and 22AWG wires anyway for the race car, but the sensor wiring seems thinner than 22 AWG.

Measurement wise? Yes, but unfortunately that will have to wait until next weekend. I was hoping to preempt some of that as I need to buy some wire assortments anyway.
Unfortunately the damage is such that I need to remove 2-3" of wiring in some places and splice in fresh wires as the damage to the insulation is pretty widely distributed.
Most are using 18-22ga (actually 0.75-0.35mm², metric wire), and have for quite some time. Only recently have they started going smaller to 26ga (0.13mm²). Having an assortment of 18, 20, and 22 ga would cover most signal wire applications.
Thanks. Sounds like I now know what I need to order.
