I mean there is only one answer to that when it comes this company......

That key looks older than 1990, and the logo on the keyfob is certainly older than that.  Mazda made a bunch of cool cars before the Miata came out too :)

Exactly.  And old rotaries had round keys.  This has got to be something like a 323 or 626.

Could be entirely wrong, of course, but conjecture is fun!

I was hoping for RX3 or 4, didn't know about the round key. Maybe a pickup? NonREPU of course.

the key looks 80s to me but I'm not at all familiar with Mazda keys. 

My '90 Miata key looks the same. 

Sorry, key is not that important.

Good point on the title. Fortunately, that's not lost. Not being able to quickly locate the key, however, induced some mild panic. 

And another pic. Car is dirty but has been stored inside. Same owner since 1998.

Never a problem finding the key on an MG from the 'golden' period (1950s). The factory screwed a spare to the firewall.

So what did you get?

My 88 626GT key doesn't look like that. That's all i got. 

Some search into Mazda logo history implies this should be a key to a car from 1976 to 1992

White was one of the 3.5 colors you could get in a 1990 Miata.  

I am going to predict that the top of the photo is the rear of the car.  This is a photo of a Miata trunk lid in white.  The rasied-ness at the top of the photo is a factory lip spoiler which has some black rubber/plastic gasket where the two whites come together.  

Are those spots finger prints from closing the lid?

That's not a white Miata.

There's still paint on it.

I'm thinking FB RX-7?

That is definitely a key that would come with a 1990 Miata. 

Knowing where the key is has been the only step I've taken with mine in the last four years.

All FBs had round keys.  99% certain SAs did too.

Note, I have no idea what car this one is for...

Not a 323. 

(Also, I soooooo wanted a 323 GTX while in school but at the time could only afford Chucks.)

I had no idea Mazda was in the laundry machine business. 

Yup, Miata is always the answer. This one's been with us since 1998 with project updates going back to 2000. Time to get it back on the road. Falkens are already on the way. Need to order more parts, too. Plus it's due for a t-belt. 

Excuse the boxes in front of the car, too, as we're in the middle of replacing garage cabinets.

Yes, SA keys were round but didn't have the plastic coating. Just a round head metal key.
