What's the furthest that you have flown in and driven home?

Last Fall, I did 800 miles, Seattle to Las Vegas, after buying my 1990 Integra.

Around 2002, I did 1900 miles, Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Rapids, in a 1991 Sedan de Ville, after my father got an embarassing trade-in offer for it.

I flew from Chicago to Portland, OR and took a taxi to a coworker's house that I was managing and called him from his driveway.

"Hey man, I'm outside and we need to talk." In the end I fired him and collected his stuff and his company Chevrolet Silverado. I drove three days back in February- 2100 miles?

Flew to San Francisco for mrs oldtin's 928s. Drove it back to Chicago. Somewhere around 2200 miles

I bought a Miata off of ebay. I had to fly to San Jose, Cal. to pick it up.
Drove back to Houston. 1900 miles. I got to do the Pacific Coast Hwy part of the way to L.A. That was pretty cool. Then cut across to I-5. Passed on the road where James Dean was killed right at dusk. Pretty weird. Crossing Arizona with no A/C in a 1990 Club model - not so cool. I remember stopping for gasoline in Arizona and also checking the oil. It was cooler under the hood than it was outside in the 112 degree heat. At least it seemed that way. The last 830 miles was across Texas. I averaged 80 mph.
There is a whole lot of nothing in West Texas. You leave El Paso and I see a sign that says "next services 130 miles". Spooky.

I agreed to codrive from McQuire AFB to Indianapolis area in a 58 Oldsmobile convertible with bad top and without heater. This was winter of 1967 with a snow storm moving across PA. We were on the original PA Turnpike and halfway thru one of the tunnels the car started missing and loosing power. We made it out and discovered no oil showed on dipstick. Added oil every 50 miles after that. We arrived at destination and proceeded to remove the engine in an old drafty barn. Getting to his house, we find out the air base is on alert because of storm. We are supposed to be at base. We caught a plane just in time to be back before we were missed.

1,000 miles. And that was on a just over challenge priced car. I just drove almost that for a 900 car. Never had an issue

I didn't fly, but I did do a one way rental and drive, for a '56 Ford Bus. I needed a few more tools than flying would allow. 2118 miles round trip. From Wisconsin. In January.

It was a memorable trip.

Flew from Cincinnati to Hartford Connecticut to pick up my 69 olds 88 hardtop. Buddy at the airport got me a cheap seat for $40 bucks. Filled up my car before leaving and the tank of gas cost more than the plane ticket. Stopped at my brothers house in Altoona to get new tires, the original bias ply tires just weren't cutting it lol.... eventually made it back to cincy alive.

Flew from DC to San Diego for an '06 Mazda3 wagon with 140k on the clock in the middle of August. Drive back was a mostly relaxed 5 day adventure except that the check engine light came on just as we hit the start of the desert at the bottom of the mountains leaving CA. Ok so I guess the real reason was not the sweet car but instead to pick up my son who had just completed his summer internship.

I think I have done 5 or 6 fly-n-drives. All for cheap cars. Never regretted it. Just gotta do it right
