You will not find a more efficient car that is the total package that the LS400 provides. I've tried.

It's not an LS400---- but the Buick Park Ave with the 3800 V6 will return 30 or more on the highway. The supercharged versions are pretty darn quick for a luxo-barge and also get great mpg if you drive with a gentle right foot.
They are very comfortable "cloud machines" and basically free.

darn it. great. now im looking a lot closer at avalons. some camry parts interchange (think aftermarket suspension). I saw a pic of a 1st gen on lowered on crown vic meshies and it made me hnnnngggg.
I already have a fuel efficient commuter but its not very comfortable. I need/want something big and luxurious that still can get around 30mpg on my 90mi/day highway commute.
26 is around 30. I do 70 now, and did 80 a day for 13 years. I guarantee you that after a week in a LS400, you will say "Yeah, it's worth 4 MPG and premium. Damn this is comfy."

25,000 miles a year at $3.70 a gallon. The difference from 26MPG to 30MPG is only $475.
