Looking at basic engines.. Sometimes I get confused why they both exist.
One is cheaper, the other is much larger.
Although it is easy to look at one and scope creep up to the other.
I (6'2") easily fit in the back of a new Accord. That isn't happening in anything smaller, Civic included. This is like asking why does Chevy make a Cruze and a Malibu. They are different cars that service different groups.
Accord is better if you carpool with 2 other adults to work. Civic is a 2 person car with an occasional use of the back seat. As far as overall comfort, I've found the civic more comfy than the Accord but some find it the other way.
A 2015 Civic is about the size and trim level of a 2005 Accord. Repeat for every 10 years back to 1980 or so.
A 1980 Civic was a smaller car than the current Honda Fit.
80 Civic: 152 in long by 62 in wide by 53 in high
15 Fit: 155.7 in long by 66.7 in wide by 61 in high

This. Is this a serious question? Did the OP really not realize there are size categories for cars? His avatar is a Nova, which was, at the time a compact car that was the next class down from the intermediate Malibu, which itself was the next size down from the full size Impala. All could be had with the same 350 cid engine. Why do you think the different size categories of cars existed?

you can … but it takes some cutting and fitting

Fair enough! I stand corrected.
So I should have said: "Pretty sure you can't get the 3.5-liter 278 HP V6 in a Civic as a factory option.

Challenge accepted. Coming to a crapcan EG Civic near you.
My 6'4" son fits fine in the back seat of my Gen 8 Accord. I also like the size of the Accord but when I compare the Dimensions of the two I am trying to convince myself to get a Civic Si.
Different engines and suspensions. Is that what your asking? The base model accord engine came up rated in the civic si if that clears any air. My girlfriends 8th gen (2008) coupe is a MASSIVE car. Her friend has a similar year civic and it's much more manageable yet isn't cramped. you people saying your 6'4" and fit in the back of a accord, try squeezing in a coupe, I'm 5'11" and my head is pressed against the headliner.

borrowed a friends Civic Si .. the gearing makes it an absolute blast to drive … gas milage nowhere near that of the other Civics … but a lot of fun to drive
