YMMV
What one person pays in premium will have very little meaning to your own personal policy. Shop around.

Bingo, I find myself somehow getting away with things on my zx10r that would have killed me on the anemic little SV years ago......
Personally, I would like to see a merit based system that doesn't factor in age or gender, only merit. You didn't earn a price decrease on insurance, you don't deserve it.

1000% truth. My wife owns an independent insurance agency and represents around 15 auto insurers. Many you've heard of (such as Progressive) and some smaller firms. She did an interesting experiment for Tom last year before the search that led to the Focus, and it was a pretty interesting find. Thought it might be the basis for an article but alas not to be.
She ran a pretty large list of fun cars through the companies. What we found was that for a given individual rates vary wildly. Like more than 2x for the same dude in the same car. Some results we could predict, like a Miami zip code is more expensive than an inland retirement community. And age mattered. There was a huge difference for a Neon SRT-4 between a 25 year old and a 45 year old.
Some things we never would have predicted. Some 2 door cars were cheaper than their 4 door siblings. Many sporty cars were less than Crown Vics or boring Camrys, etc for the same model year.
Every insurance company sets the gamble on premium vs. expected payout. They all calculate it differently. Bottom line is don't compare yourself to anyone else and find a friendly local agent. Insurance it not like a TV where once you know the model number you can shop for price. There is a lot to picking the right insurance that will cover you best when you need it most.
