So I'm setting up a 3rd gen Camaro for CAM-T. I didn't think buying shoes for it would be nearly as hard as it's turning out to be.

The car is a '84 Z28. 5x4.75 bolt pattern with a rwd offset. there are tons of wheels to be had but in 15 and 16 inch sizes. 200 TW tires can't really be found in sizes smaller than 17.

Vette wheels are the right sizes, but require 2 inch spacers and I really don't want to go that route.

The final roadblock is the budget. I don't want to spend much more than $1500 for the set.

suggestions?

not wide enough. Current tire choice is a Nitto NT05 in a 275/40R17 and it requires at least a 9 inch wheel.

I'm pretty sure they used to make a 17X9.5. Heavy mother berkeleyer though.

would put you at 600 for the wheels leaving 900 for tires.

18x9.5 wheels

$160 each.

265/35-18 VR-1 Tires

$232 each

That totals: $1568 + M/B

I see 18's on most of the CAM/Optima muscle cars. The VR-1 is a new tire compared to the NT05.

+1 for going with 18's. The widest size in the "good" (RE-71R, Rival-S, V720, RS3, etc) 200tw tires for 17" is 255. You'll likely want more width than that (if not now, eventually), so 17's doing look like a good long term option. 18's are also the only game in town for the steam roller Rival-S sizes (315 & 335).

On the 3rd gens, getting a set of the big spacers makes for a quantum leap in wheel options. Any C4, C5, or 4th gen transmarobird wheels are good options (and potentially very cheap used).

Have you had any luck finding used wheels on thirdgen.org? That'd be another good place to look for spacers.

Another option would be to go with a custom wheel size. Not super cheap ($350ish/wheel), but might be worth it in the long run:

The ship has sailed on good 17-inch tires wider than 255mm. Go with 18s.

The traditional ponycar go-to sizes, 275/40-17 and 315/35-17, have essentially disappeared.
