Wheel Colors. What to do?

I'm not usually indecisive but damn there are just too many choices. And I SUCK at choosing colors. The last time I picked a color for the living room at home, it looked great at the store and looked like dried blood on the wall. My wife called it the murder room for months.

I'm going to be powder coating a set of 17" wheels for the E24.

This is the car in question.

These are the wheels in question. The PO spray bombed them silver and they look like crap.

My problem is, what freaking color. I'm not a big fan of silver. I've seen pictures of this car with black wheels and didn't like that either. Now I'm thinking graphite or gunmetal. Maybe a darker silver like pewter. Darker or lighter? Gloss or flat or semi? Damn I suck at this. I've spent hours looking as pictures and I still can't decide.

Help!

Have them bead blasted?

Neon green? Purple? Bright Orange? What about Brown? You never see brown wheels on a car...

Or maybe one of each?

If I could do something like this I'd probably go for it.

+1 for gunmetal . There is also a color called anthracite that I really dig, but IDK that would be a good match for your car.

I had those wheels on my e36. I thought they looked pretty great powder coated with Eastwood smoke chrome. I'd post the photo but I can't figure out how to post garage photos.

The anthracite and the smoke chrome have possibilities.

Not gold, but a darker bronze color would work.

Seconded. Even a lighter, goldish bronze would look good I think.

With all the chrome on that car, I wouldn't go too dark. Some kind of pewter or that smoke chrome would look pretty nice.

I'm of the opinion that gold wheels work best with a machined lip on classic cars like this. I'm not sure all gold would have quite the same effect. In my imagination it would look like those cars where someone insisted on putting modern wheels on a vintage ride.

Gold.

Darker silver. White could also work, but that would be a PITA to keep clean.

Everyone wishes for silver and gold. How do you measure its worth? Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth..

The basketweaves will be staying. They also need to be refinished. I'm practicing on the 17s.

Those are style 32 wheels. Most people leave them regular silver but I've seen them painted a darker silver/grey that didn't look too bad either. Try doing a google picture search on 'style 32' and see if something turns up that you like.

One color some BMW guys use is called Nogaro Silver. This is a style 5 wheel but it shows what the color looks like:

Gunmetal would look nice. White if you want to spend all your time washing them.

I'll vote for smoke chrome, I think the gunmetal will be too dark.

silver of some lighter shade.

It is an 80's car, gold is the way to go.
