Monochromatic? Body colour with a satin silver ring?

If he were refinishing the basketweaves, maybe... but the multi-spoke wheels don't have the same well-defined circular separation between the spokes and the wheel to make a two-tone finish look right. Painting the entire inner barrel body-color out to the lip would just look awkward.
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to wheels, so my vote would be for the OE silver, but other than that... maybe a light gun-metal grey.
I do like those wheels best in oem silver. Although I am also a pretty big supporter of white wheels on red cars.
Dark Bronze wheels look good on a red car, but I can't find any photos that are just the right color. Gold wheels are an atrocity that should be confined to the '80's.
I personally think the oem silver looks good. Some of the other colrs on those wheels would look odd. too dark and they will just look dirty ( like most BMW wheels around here.)
Silver is neutral and looks good with lots of body colors, which is why it's the standard factory wheel color, but colors like white, bronze and dark grey stand out more.
gunmetal looks like crap next to a black tire, so there needs to be some separation between them. gunmetal with polished lip is baller. or you could do black with polished lip, or black with a red pinstripe on the lip.
Well, good bad or indifferent, I ordered some smoke chrome today. We'll see how they come out. I'll post up a picture when I get them done. I'm hoping to get them blasted Saturday.
Thanks for the input.
Not sure I like that particular combination; it seems a bit washed out. What about this?
Or black with a polished rim?
Way, way back when I was in college, I had a set of rims sort of similar to yours. I painted the background body color and left the spokes natural. I'd bet that would work for your car too.
Myself, for a big classy red 80's Euro GT car, it'd have to be Grimmspeed gold(shown) or the more dull Glasurit 2C2B as seen on the '98 Impreza RS.
But I'm a Subaru homo, so there's that...

Wow, that looks really good.
I would not have guessed that color is called "black chrome." It is neither black nor chrome. Will look very good on your red car.

Whoops, I should have said smoke chrome. Still not very chrome like, but I think it will work. It turned out better than I thought it would and a hell of a lot easier than paint.
