Still would like a Mazdaspeed6, although finding one without a sunroof is... problematic.
Mine doesn't have a sunroof. But it also has 23k miles so it's a unicorn in more ways than one in 2019.
They're old performance cars which require more than occasional maintenance. People who are enthusiastic are not selling and those that are just looking for a fun daily driver are tired of throwing money at it. On a related sidenote, the 1st gen Mazdaspeed3 is also getting very affordable, like 5-6k affordable near me. The delta between a well maintained speed3 and base 3 is almost negligible now.

IIRC, Mazda discontinued some Mazdaspeed6 specific parts like the driveshaft, which is different from an AWD Fusion. No idea where the cars sit with regards to drivetrain availability.
Some days I still wonder if an auto swap would be feasible with CX-7 electronics.
As mention replacing the OP mention of Speed6 with Speed3, and it's the same now.
One big reason (selling a Speed3 now) is that once a car goes over 100,000 (as most all Speed3's will be now) a dealership will not sell it as a used car, they will send it to auction so they offer a lot less as a trade in and prices go down.
The Speed3's seem to have a much better reliability reputation then the Speed6's (maybe they take the common abuse better?)

Less E36 M3 to break. AWD adds a whole other dimension of berkeleyery to an already volatile mix.

You're also less likely to blow up when you boost spike to 21psi at 2000 rpm if you just start spinning tires instead of hooking your AWD and trying to ping your way through it.

I did experience "super detonation" in a Mazdaspeed3 once. At least, I assume that is what it was. I found myself in 3rd when I thought it was 1st and tried to move the car quickly in the parking lot. When it bogged the engine, it knocked once, EXTREMELY violently. Not marbles in a can, it was more like M80 in a 55 gallon drum.
We've learned a lot about DI since then and AFAIK they still don't fully grasp what CAUSES that other than being in exactly the wrong operating window. Which is probably a good chunk of why Internet wisdom says don't go into boost below 3500 with a DISI.

There's actually a couple is scientific papers out there now regarding the causes and effects of "Super Knock" I'll see if I can find one later, but as I remember the working theory is it has to do with a detonation lighting off fuel diluted oil.
