The more cars I own the less I understand.
I'd like to think you hit a certain untenable number and then clarity sets in, but i'm not sure i've hit it.. or that it exists..

I'm not against the idea of having a Porsche but I'm down here thinking that Porsche restored air cooled Porsche money offers you a E36 M3 load of other options I'd definitely have to consider if I was ever in that position.

They will do it for anyone with a deep enough wallet. You can send a car or even just the motor.
I met a little old lady that had a very early car, one of the first 100 if I recall correctly. Her husband sold Euro cars in Southern California back in the day.

That would be like putting a 917-look kit car in the museum.
In reply to Knurled. :
I'm sure a 917 look kit car is historically significant in some fashion. Possibly as a warning from history sort of way.

I don't have any interest to. Maybe they are a great car to some people. But they just don't interest me or stir any feelings in me.
Have you driven one?
You'd rather have anything other than a Porsche? How does this even make sense? Would you rather have a '94 Buick?
What?

Maybe not "anything", that's perhaps an exaggeration, but for the money being spent here, there sure are a lot of other cars I would much rather have first. I have driven a 944, which I know is not looked fondly on by Porsche purists, and found it to be a pretty awful car. Never driven a 911, never had the opportunity, but not really something that I'm actively trying to get behind the wheel of either.
I'd recommend it. I drove a 981 recently and was BLOWN. AWAY.
Completely blown away. I've had a series of street and track-oriented miatas, but I've also had a bunch of sportbikes, a WRX, driven corvettes/lotuses/etc.
The 981 blew me away. The only other time I've ever been in such awe of a machine was when I rode the Ducati 899 (but luckily I already had another great bike, my Superduke). It speaks volumes that I was for the first time in my life struggling to walk away from a very poor financial decision.
I really should (or shouldn't?) try a 911.

Mirror mounted to the roof instead of the windshield, narrow body, short wheelbase, skinny wheels.those are all the identifiers I know. Until fairly recently I honestly thought the 930 was the oldest 911, so I'm far from an expert.
Far from an expert but you're not even close to my first boss. He was always talking about "911"s. He would talk about the "911" that went past his house and woke him up at night, about the "911" that was driving way too fast and cut him off on his way to work, about the "911" the guy who was dating is daughter owned. I wondered where he was seeing all these 911's. I saw them occasionally but nothing in the numbers he was reporting. Then one day on the way to lunch, a red Corvette rips past in the left lane doing about 100. My boss says that berkeleying "911" is going to get somebody killed. He was calling every sports car a "911"! I didn't even bother to correct him.
You thought a 944 was an awful car, really? Maybe an awful example, or maybe you should have gotten out of the parking lot. 944 is one of the most balanced chassis out there. I was not a fan of the 911, until I drove one. Serious cars.
Saying you are not interested in driving a 911 when you have never driven one is like a virgin saying they are not interested in sex, no frame of reference
Believe it or not, My least favorite Porsche is the 356. Crappy greenhouse, awkward handling and slow. If you want looks, go kg, but I'd prefer a hotrod type 1. The 914 is ugly but a riot to drive. The best is really the 911.

Compared to my Miata? Yes, a 944 does not feel like a great car. And I'll never be able to afford a 911, so it's better not to drive one. At least then I won't know what I'm missing out (if they are as great as people says)
