Where are you guys buying used motors from? I want to buy a 2zz motor for my MR2, but not sure where i should be looking to get one that 'should' be reliable. Do you guys just go to a junkyard and hope? Ebay/facebook marketplace?

I don't buy one i can't hear run from an individual. A reputable scrap yard with a 90 day warranty is a different matter however. Ive had good luck with both options.

car-part.com is a good place to look for salvage engines.

Most listing on car-part.com give photos and mileage.  Since the donor would be a fwd car, I would look for a car that has pictures showing it was rear ended and totaled.  Should have then been running fine right up to the scene of the accident.  Buying an engine from a car that has no body damage seem riskier.  Could have the been scrapped for flood or scrapped for mechanical reasons.

See if the JY will give you the vin.  Then, google the vin.  This often brings up salvage auction listings and pictures.

I went over to car-part for Florida and they are showing 3 in the Orlando market.  $1,200 for 65k jdm from these guys.  http://www.jdmflorida.com/

It appears Monkeywrech Racing is currently out of stock on 2zzs, but given the engine choice and what you're putting it in I'd still consider talking to them about where to get one and what to look for/replace while it's out.
