I'm trying to build a better-geared transaxle for my 2.5L Boxster. Despite a 3.89:1 final drive, she's geared to do 70 in first and, therefore, acceleration is tepid at best. I'm told that it uses a B5 Audi A4/VW Passat transaxle. I believe this to be true, because, when I had the gearbox out to replace/upgrade my IMS bearing, I noticed a VW-Audi logo cast into the bell housing. Since there were so many engine/trans configurations offered in the B5-chassis cars, I'm sure that if I had a gear ratio chart, I could pick five gears that would better suit my little 2.5's powerband. VW Vortex is F-*#%!g useless, so I'm hoping someone on this board can help me find the gear ratio chart I'm looking for.

Look for 01E transmission ratios.

I do not know if FWD and AWD gearsets swap. If any 01E FWDs were sold in the US then they are extremely rare. 01E were only used behind higher powered engines (anything 3.0l and up) and those were almost always quattro or auto-only. 4 cylinder B-chassis used 01A transmissions, which are completely unrelated.

If anyone else is curious about Audi gear ratios, I found this:

I'm probably going to try to get a diesel Passat first through third and keep fourth and fifth fairly tall. Trouble is, that's a RoW gearbox (didn't officially come to US)

I'm not sure if this is the one or not, but this guy has been trying to sell this transmission for quite some time: http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/pts/5379906132.html
