Like the title says I need to find two CHEAP single wire alternators Where do I look theses days? Need'em with V belt pulleys. Both will be used on equipment at the local clay oval. I'm tired of swapping batteries and having to jump stuff as it gets dark quickly now after I get out of my real job.

Aren't ALL GM alternators from the 70s/80s really single wire? The one heavy power wire and the second little wire to the gauge/dash? All you would need to hook up would be the heavier wire for a race car.

The GM alternators are everywhere for cheap or free these days.

Was just gonna say, use a common GM 10SI/12SI alternator.

Use a GM alternator, and if it won't self excite, add a bulb to the dash with power from the kill switch feeding the excite terminal. Easy.

I don't know what our dirt track modifieds are using. Most all of them are running them.

10/12si with resistor wired into the whatever terminal doesn't jump right to the hot lead. i have the part # somewhere, i just did this to the 240z. or buy a one wire conversion kit, but once i figured out how easy it was to wire correctly i shake my head at my younger self for buying the 1 wire conversion kit.

Part number P7127SEAV at advance. The "se" stands for self excite. They're inexpensive (~$30 bucks or so) and most stores stock them.

Thank spool. $44 plus $15 as we have no core... I thought someone had a tinny little denso unit that was self exciting and cheap?

Any old gm alternator from the late 70's. Splice all three wires together. Buy a few cheap regulators, though, as they will burn out. Those should only be a few bucks each.

The GM 10/12si alternator is the best choice. There are small Denso units, but they are low amp output, usually 35 amps. Here is one: http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-4700-new-chevy-mini-alternator-denso-street-rod-race-1-wire-12180.aspx

There is a 3-wire Denso used on Kubota tractors, here is one: http://www.amazon.com/Chevy-Alternator-Denso-Street-3-Wire/dp/B0081SD3Z2

I have a 60 amp Powermaster mini Denso on my Camaro, but they are quite a bit more, usually close to $300.

Thanks I forget about Amazon for stuff other then books.... 35amps will be plenty once the old Intersmashable tractor is started we generally don't shut it off...as it's got a weak injector pump and its addicted to ether like a crack whore... I was able to fix the 10/12 delco on the 50's Huber M500 grader last night simple broken wire.

If I can get them to buy one for the tractor it might be this unit.
