I'm sure you are right Pete.  I just don't understand why in decades of owning Chevy V8's I've never had those problems.  Seriously I've bought 20 + New Chevy's since 1972 most V8's and rarely failed to drive them to the junkyard. ( never traded one in ) And it hasn't happened.
Plus Those V8's I turned into race motors.  Or boat motor etc. I've never had to extract a broken stud  from the exhaust manifold.
I may have seen it but don't actually recall anyone else doing it.

Does e85 have that much effect on naturally aspirated engines?

Early Coyote's were rated at 15+hp and 10+ft-lbs while running e85. Can't find any definitive info on current generation though.

E85 hp/tq ratings the same?-e-85-gain.jpg

Yo dawg, I heard you like Miatas so I got you a hitch for a Miata so you can drive a Miata while towing your Miata

The answer for me turned out to be a 2014 F150 in work truck spec with the 5.0. Mostly came down to condition and this one is as rust free as a one year old ohio truck. As a bonus it was well under my ideal 15k budget. It was 30 minutes from my GFs parents in VA so easy to make a weekend trip.

The underside and body cavities will be treated with surface shield to hopefully give it a long life in Ohio.

Score!  Was thinking of this thread yesterday while driving a '16 with the 5.0 and 6 speed.

Fluid Film comes in 5 gallon buckets and is easily sprayed with an electric paint gun, too.

Sweet truck!  I highly recommend getting a headache rack, a rooftop amber light and some generic logo for the door (applied with vinyl magnet.)   It magically becomes the most authorized vehicle you've ever owned.  I think even more so than a old P71.   Add a high viz vest and a clip board and you'll never be stopped.  If you are stopped just drop something vague about testing for EPA violations.  They'll leave you alone.

Get yourself an orange cone and literally park wherever you want.

If you really want to go crazy, add some wig/wag LED lights to the ends.  White, yellow, green are legal in Ohio.  Yellow and green is the newest colors for municipal vehicles.

I do have a rechargeable magnetic amber roof strobe on my desk at work. I'll have to transfer that to the truck for "emergencies".

But, its super handy too.  I've gotten to the point that I wish all my vehicles had amber lights.  I took the truck out to the side of the road to help a friend...at night.  Nothing better than having amber lights.

I once came upon an accident that had just happened involving a left turn.  One car was disabled in the middle of the road.  I pulled up behind the disabled and put on ambers.  Someone else had already called for help.  When the cops arrived in just minutes that got he a "fist bump of thanks" from the cop and I was on my way.
If I'm towing a car and going slower than traffic, I put on the ambers just like local tow trucks do.  It's nice to be noticed and not have someone barreling down on you from behind.

This truck gets me "preferential parking" at the local amusement park because the gate attendants mistake me for one of their service vehicles.

I get treated really well at our local land fill.  I'm not sure if the cashier thinks I'm a municipal account of just a commercial account but either way, it has worked in my favor.

On the other hand, I once got waved down in a residential neighborhood (not mine.)  The resident wanted to know when the Fall leaf collection would resume.  Their assumption was that I was a township worker.

The Gov't Mule has been good to me!

My 2.7T Silverado will do 100% of what you are asking except over 46k miles it's averaging 22 MPG mixed plus towing a 22ft car trailer.

I love it.

I did add a subwoofer and amp to remedy the stereo situation.

The same era f150 I had for work from new ate 3 sets of upper balljoints, blew the lsd rear end, steering rack was failing, all the paint flaked off along the bottom and all wheel wells in 120,000 km(75k miles).

I hope they all aren't that crap but I'd be pissed if it was my money that bought it.

They all do that, and have a lot of caliper and flex hose issues too.

It's not like Chevys aren't the same way, and I am sure Dodges too if they ran long enough to wear anything out wink

I would rather deal with AFM than Ford suspension or Ford brakes or Ford rust or Ford transmissions.  But that's just me.

I was going to snark about how the direct injected 4.3 V6 doesn't have AFM and makes almost the same power as the engine in your van, but TIL that the V6 has AFM as installed in pickups, but not in vans.

Either way, it's easy to disable if you know someone with HPT, and it only seems to fail when it is switched, so the software-only delete seems to be just as reliable as a cam and lifter swap.  Failure also seems to be an infant mortality thing, if it doesn't fail in the first 50k it doesn't seem to fail.

Really, anything that isn't a Dodge is going to be pretty decent, they all suck in some ways but they are fairly minor ways.

At first I was about to argue with you on Ford rust.  Then I saw you were from Cleveland.  It's something you probably know more about than most smiley

This one is well past that mileage and seems to be well maintained with no issues. It spend most of its life in CO as a parts runner before moving to VA. Electronic locker in the rear instead of LSD.

16.5mpg was my average on the trip home which included driving through the mountains and above average winds. The indicated average started climbing when I kept it at 65mph for about 20 miles but most of the trip was 70-75. I'm happy with it overall and it is a huge increase in comfort from my 2000 GMC Sierra and 2007 Express van, even in XL spec.

I don't have the Sierra anymore, I do have a Volvo truck that could use a V8 but I'm not planning on any more big projects for a bit.

I started putting light bars on my trucks when I got my first 4x4 with a plow and I've had them up until my current truck. My current truck has a Speed Turtle Eazy Flash Module that flashes the factory lighting through OBD2. It's completely hidden but still provides emergency lighting when needed. I mostly use it when I'm backing the trailer off the road but I also use it when I stop to help at accidents, doing roadside repairs or when I've got the truck and trailer parked partially in the road while loading or unloading.  I'd say I use them at least once a month.
