Regarding the various Miata revisions, I've read this many times: "The NB is a better car, the NA is a better Miata."

Here's my question -- which is the better Elan? In other words, which will get me as close as possible to the magic of those old British roadsters?

That's easy. 90 Base package. Leanest, similiar power levels, and no unnecessary fluff.

So I should just loosen all the grounds on my 1.6 to get the real authentic experience?

Wipers work only when the lights are off?

Whichever Miata you like driving the best.

Everyone has their favorite version, so you need to go out and find out which one you like the best.

Don't rely on other people's opinions when you can make your own.

Probably the ND - Elans are fast, Miatas were MGB replacements.

Yeah, the NA is styled in a way that's reminiscent of an Elan, but price and performance-wise was more of an MGB successor.

When they are running.

A little Googling says the Elan wasn't much faster in the early version.

well, to Judge the two just on numbers

Miata:

1990 Miata:

HP: 116

Torque: 100lb

weight: 2210lbs

zero-60: 9.2 seconds

1/4 mile: 16.8@83mph

top speed: 116

1964 Elan 1600

HP: 105

Torque: 108 lb

weight: 1485lbs

zero-60: 7.1 seconds

1/4 mile: 15.7 sec @87mph

Top speed: 112 (estimated)

The weight really helps the elan in acceleration, but as this test was done in 1964, I am sure the Elan on modern tyres would be even better
