The torsen is good because it's easy and it's got good turn-in. The car handles like it's got an open.

The Giken puts down power really well. You get a bit more push on turn-in, but you can get the power down really early. Useful on a tight course or on high power cars.

Haven't tried the others myself.

The pricey option is the back-half of the V8 kit using the Getrag CTS-V unit. I LOVE that diff! I made the crossmember and driveshaft/adapter myself. A bit of overkill, but if you change your mind about the the LSx you'll be glad you went that route.

I was told that too but couldn't buy it for some reason. I have a 3.73 right now and love how I can stay a gear lower on the dragon. With the supercharger it still beats a stock Miata and is way more flexible. Keeps the RPMs down on the highway too.

The CTS-v rear kit for 4-cylinders is coming soon. Seriously, I think I've finally got something to happen. FM's been waiting for V8R to ship some parts but they never showed. It's been ridiculous. But I think some stuff is on the way.

It's a pretty tall ratio for a lower power car to deal with, but paired with a 6-speed it would be great. Great diff, and you can get a brand new one for about the price of a 100k mile Torsen.

rx7 type lsd is supposed to be superior for road racing.

Found one with the 3.73. In fact at the time they were the easiest to get.

As nice as the V8R stuff is, if FM made their own parts I'd buy and gladly pay a premium. I spoke with Steve from V8R at Miatas at The Gap and told him point blank I bought from FM because he never answered his phone or email. He practically laughed at me when I told him I had to engineer the rear-only swap myself. When he emailed me about the '03 Miata I was selling a few months later I replied and he said he'd get back to me-since then he has never answered his phone or email. So I sold it to someone else.

Keith I have the dimensions for the drive shaft and adapter-the adapter is even saved in Solidworks by the guy that machined it. I'm re-doing the cross-member this winter but its survived 2500 miles and multiple speed bump attacks with no problems. If you can use any of this info for an FM rear swap kit please let me know.

I'm not going to get into our business relationships. If V8R hadn't been able to come through this time (and until parts show, they haven't) then I was going to finish the job myself.

I have the part numbers for all three CTS-V ratios, they're all available.

Lizard, for your planned use, the easiest thing to do is just pick up a Torsen. They handle well and it's a no brainer job to install.

Which is best for just hooning around & driving like a lunatic? If I nearly double the power, I'm gonna be looking for abandoned parking lots so I can cause my friends to pucker! No racing planned and if I ever get around to autocrossing it I don't care what class I get stuck in, cause it'll just be for fun and/or my own improvement.

if that's the case i'll echo what Keith stated. get a torsen and stick with the 4.3 gear.
