Might be able to score a used set of 225/50R16 for pretty cheap.
I ran them on my old Miata. I'd slot them somewhere between Yoko s.drives and Dunlop Z3's. Closer to the Dunlops. They are reasonably sticky, very predictable and seemed to wear pretty well. Not really a top tier competition tire in autocross, but I've heard some people like them for drift and "Lemons" type racing due to predictability and longevity.
We run them on both Lemons cars. They are durable and have decent grip. They get a little greasy when hot but not horribly so.
We've run the old RT615k and the newer k+ for many many hours on the Lemon in 225/50R16 and now 225/45R17. They've been pretty great. We switched from the Direzza ZII* and have seen slightly more grip(seat of pants, no real numbers) and a little less treadlife. The k+ is then a little grippier still and maybe 2hrs less treadlife. We're getting a full event, 14.5hrs, on a set of rears and 10ish hours on a set of fronts.
Not many tire choices for my 996 turbo in 18", the 615k's are available and what I run.
they feel sticky on the street, I'm doing an autox in a few weeks and will see how they do there.
so far I'm happy with them
We went from RE71s to Rivals to 615Ks, for our Lemons car. 615Ks had the longest life with less grip, Rivals felt the best with similar grip to the RE71s. This is on a low powered 89 Mustang.
i Enjoyed them on hte nose of the truck. put onto too small wheels they still work well on the Forte/Tib.
I'm on my second set. Still happy with them, and I'll gladly buy another set. The lack of grip compared to top shelf 200tw tires is easily made up by the mileage you are able to run them.
I've run more sets than I can count of the 615K on a 24h of lemons Taurus SHO that eats front tires for breakfast, but with some rotation front to rear, they would last a race. When the 615K+ came out, we started using it. Slightly more grip at the expense of faster wear.
The older 615K version was "good enough" that we never sought out an alternative. With the faster wear of the 615K+, we're looking at the Hankook RS4 as a longer wearing choice.
So what is the experience with these in cold temperatures and really hot temperatures? Is there anything special about them that you couldn't autocross mm when the temperature outside is in the forties or in the hundreds?
We liked them better at the first race, July 85 degrees and sunny. Last weeks race was a high of 50 degrees, they worked but sometimes felt like running on marbles. Two fifteen hour races and they still have a few to several hours of track time on them.
I think they are 215 or 225 stretched on some 9" rims, not ideal but we need a short tire for our gears.
