Am I a masochist, naive or something else? I can't even understand the choices I'm lusting after: Mercedes Benz TD (98-99ish but the 83-84's are sweet looking), E Series Van or 90's Suburban.

This is irrational right? Right?

If I narrowed it down to the MB (mostly because the MB makes way more sense to me and my lifestyle), what's the general consensus. There seems to be a bunch of the 80's Diesels around.

Diesels make great daily drivers. Tons of torque, smooth, low powerband, and cruise all day long at any sane MPH. My dad had a whole fleet of diesel Peugeots and MBs when I was in high school, and my last 3 daily drivers have all been late model pickups with diesels. The cost of ownership is high compared to a similar gas vehicle, but they do return better MPG and have the sweet diesel rattle.

Don't you LOVE when everyone calls thier Diesel a "Cummings"!?

I'd love to add VW Rabbit Diesel and to swap a 4bt into my F150 but that's totally out of the question atm.

Lisa and Sarah. (actually meant blonde, brunet, tall, short, skinny, curvy, Caucasian, black, Asian etc. Cavernous wouldn't be my first choice but who am I Brad Pitt?)

I have nothing to add beyond the fact that I love my diesel truck more than I ever thought I could.

She used bioDiesel instead of the usual.

Have you ever driven one? They will beat the ever loving crap out of you.

The only thing I have ever driven that rode worse is a bulldozer.

That said, I'd love to have one again. Tough as an anvil and reliable as gravity.

I am admittedly a Ford truck guy. I'd just need to find a Supercab or crew cab. But mileage becomes a concern.

No, you are just covertly enlightened to the secrets that we diesel freaks have been aware of for years.

Turns out I've been surpressing it for years. I remember teaching my 2 year old son (he's 10 now) the difference between a Diesel and gas engine by the sound. And my favorite car as a kid was a Diesel Rabbit. And now that I think of it, my older brother taught me about compression and that Diesels are very high compression etc as a little boy.

most of them are the ext cab or 4dr versions... seems the texans loved them back in the late 80's to mid 90's... this is the only place i've ever seen truck prices so cheap...

I have - the dash vibrated so bad at idle that you could barely read the guages.

Rode like I imagine a Sherman tank would ride.
