It was always cool to me, man. It was always cool.
On the flip side, those cars existed when I was a little tyke. I grew up in the 80s and this is probably why I have such a thing for cars that look like the boxes they came in. Rabbits, A2 Golfs, VW Foxes, B12 Sentras, pre-Impreza Subarus...
Heck, a first generation Cavalier with white letter tires looks pretty sweet, too.

As though you actually need all the bolts!
just think of it as a pre-emptive bolt loss.
I always liked the X-11, and IIRC they won their class in SCCA Showroom stock.
A buddy of mine had a 4-door with a 4spd and the iron duke. Slow as molasses, but totally unkillable. (and we tried.....believe me we tried) With the seats folded down it was cavernous inside---- very practical car.....but not exactly glamorous!

Well hang on... are these RWD and easily V8 swappable?
Because i'm starting to feel ill as well, and wouldn't mind giving it about the same treatment that this Maverick got. I could easily see how this could turn into a badass little hoon machine.
Nope . FWD. GMs first attempt in a small car.
Its just like 70s music.... crap... but it has some appeal in a foggy nostalgia kind of way....
My mother in law owned a 1st gen before they fixed the brake problem.....
