Other posts here had me searching the List for MR2's. Found a slicktop Gen2 about 3 hours away, might be a scam but doesn't look like it. Currently have 4 parking spots and 5 vehicles so another will cause serious issues with SWMBO. Have a strong want for this to do a v-6 swap. Enable me or talk me down whichever you are inclined towards...
So, to provide more info...
I've never driven a SW20 in any form. I've driven a couple of AW11's and really loved them. Almost bought an AW11 in the early 90's but decided a 2nd Gen CRX Si was more practical. Acquisition of a fleet addition would require fleet reduction most likely involving the loss of an E36 coupe (325is).
Do it because they are sexy
Sorry can't disable a slick top purchase. The only bad thing is wheel availability. It's odd offsets to make it work so you do have to spend up a little for those. If my MR2 was a slicktop I'd probably still have it.

I actually looked at one of these after my e36 was totaled. It was a pretty beat example on cheap coil overs and a bad alignment, but still a ton of fun whipping it around on some well known local back roads. Would have bought a decent example in a heartbeat had one come available at the time. They're gorgeous cars, one of my favorite designs from the 90s, and the V6 swap has always intrigued me.
Wait, did you want me to dissuade you or something?

Is it the white one in Texas?
I have enjoyed my v6 sw20 but I have yet to drive it for any length of time. I need to address the supposed oiling issues before I attempt to track it, that is my main concern with the car.

I never pictured you as the purple anodized type.

I already ordered a new white one. Going to junkyard Thursday for a steering wheel.
Hardtop SW20s are RARE, that's why you should buy it. Assuming it is NA? I'd say buy it and drive it as-is for a while.
I drove a turbo version as a daily driver through the '90's. I loved that car! I also had a slick top '91 NA and still regret selling it. I had no intention of getting rid of it, but I was selling another car and the guys friend liked it too and bought it. The biggest reason was at 6'4" or whatever, the guy fit in fine.
The biggest issues are finding good ones, and the wheel and tire sizes. I think they just look goofy on anything larger than 16", but unfortunately, that is not where the sizes are these days.

I picked up an engineless slicktop with crank windows and manual steering over the holiday weekend. Do it!
I'm planning on a V6 swap, FWIW.

Is a sw20 with a v6 or 4th gen becoming the new answer...
Hard top would be a good find, also if you want a clean one that is turbo and hard top the JDM option is there since low option performance trim cars were more common there.
For a V6 swap for sure jump on it. It will be lighter as well so it will only benefit your build.
If you want a NA build consider the BEAMS 3SGE.
ANY hardtop is an appreciating asset. A hardtop with no engine and a family of possums living in the engine compartment is an appreciating asset. The only way you should NOT buy an SW20 hardtop is because you're giving the deal to one of us.
My Uncle-in-Law had a clean NA SW20 hard top. He wanted to put a sun roof in it. I tried to explain that he didn't want to do that.

That's such an uncle-in-law thing to do. Thank you for your service to the MR2 community.
